Primary Job Title: SQL Server Database Administrator
About The Opportunity
A staffing partner serving the IT infrastructure and enterprise software services sector is hiring an on-site SQL Server Database Administrator for a client in India. This role focuses on operating and optimising mission-critical SQL Server estates, ensuring high availability, robust disaster recovery, and peak performance across production and reporting environments. On-site presence required.
Role & Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain SQL Server instances across development, staging and productioninstallation, patching, configuration and lifecycle management.
- Monitor database health and performance; diagnose and resolve slow queries, index issues and resource bottlenecks using query tuning and telemetry tools.
- Design, implement and test backup, recovery and HA/DR strategies (Always On, failover clustering, log shipping, replication) to meet RTO/RPO targets.
- Manage database security, permissions, encryption and auditing; enforce change-control and configuration management processes.
- Automate routine maintenance and operational tasks using PowerShell, SQL Server Agent jobs and industry-standard maintenance scripts.
- Collaborate with application developers, DevOps and infrastructure teams on deployments, capacity planning, CI/CD for database changes and incident response.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have
- Proven hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022).
- Strong T-SQL expertise and demonstrated experience in query performance tuning and index optimisation.
- Practical implementation of HA/DR solutions: Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping or replication.
- Proven backup & recovery strategy design, disaster recovery testing and incident remediation.
- Experience with automation and scripting using PowerShell and SQL Server Agent jobs.
- Familiarity with SSIS/SSRS for ETL and reporting support, and with database deployment/change-management processes.
Preferred
- Experience with database CI/CD practices and deployment tooling (Redgate or equivalent).
- Familiarity with performance/monitoring tools (Idera, SolarWinds, Query Store, Extended Events).
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent.
