Your Job
You will provide L1/L2 database support for Gen1 and Gen2 environments within the DataOps organization, ensuring stable and reliable database operations across on-prem and cloud platforms. You'll own day-to-day incident response, triage common issues, coordinate escalations to US-based L3 support, and drive continuous improvement of runbooks and operational practices to reduce repeat incidents.
Our Team
The DataOps team operates globally, partnering closely with US L3 support (Doug) and cross-functional DataOps teams to keep our analytics and production databases healthy and available. We balance fast incident response with continuous improvement work to increase platform stability and reduce operational toil.
What You Will Do
- Monitor database health and respond to alerts (performance, availability, failures)
- Triage and resolve common issues (failed jobs, slow queries, access issues, data inconsistencies)
- Escalate complex issues with clear diagnostics and context
- Support databases across:SQL Server (ReplProd, reporting DBs), Amazon Redshift (Legacy & DataOps), MongoDB and Postgres (Gen2)
- Manage user access, roles, and permissions
- Ensure backup jobs complete successfully and support recovery when needed
- Follow and improve runbooks and standard procedures
- Coordinate with US L3 (Doug) and DataOps teams during incidents
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Strong SQL skills and proven ability to troubleshoot queries and diagnose query performance issues.
- Experience supporting production databases in an L1/L2 support role.
- Hands-on experience with at least one of these platforms: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Amazon Redshift.
- Practical knowledge of AWS cloud fundamentals and how cloud services interact with database platforms.
- Understanding of database performance basics, backup/recovery concepts, and access control principles.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience supporting multiple database platforms (e.g., SQL Server + Redshift or Postgres + MongoDB) across Gen1 and Gen2 environments.
- Familiarity with automation and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to build diagnostics, runbook automations, or routine operational tasks.
- Experience with monitoring/observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, etc.) and creating alerting thresholds.
- Knowledge of replication, high-availability setups, and performance tuning at scale.
- AWS or database certifications (e.g., AWS Certified SysOps/Database Specialty, Microsoft/PG/MongoDB certifications).
