Data Risk Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Risk Manager, responsible for leading the enterprise-wide strategy to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with data across its lifecycle. This includes risks related to data quality, privacy, retention, access, usage, and compliance. The role ensures that data is managed as a strategic asset while aligning with the organization's risk appetite, regulatory obligations, and operational goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a data risk management framework aligned with enterprise risk and data governance standards.
- Lead risk assessments for data-related processes, platforms, and systems across business units.
- Oversee controls related to data quality, lineage, retention, access, and privacy.
- Collaborate with data governance, IT, legal, and compliance teams to ensure responsible data handling and regulatory alignment.
- Monitor and report on key risk indicators (KRIs) related to data integrity, unauthorized access, and regulatory exposure.
- Support incident response for data breaches, quality failures, or compliance violations.
- Lead data risk governance forums and present risk posture to senior leadership and board committees.
- Drive data literacy and risk awareness across the organization through training and engagement.
- Partner with technology teams to embed risk controls into data platforms, pipelines, and analytics environments.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in data governance, technology risk, or enterprise data management.
- Strong understanding of data lifecycle management, metadata, privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, DPDP), and data quality frameworks.
- Experience with GRC platforms, data cataloging tools, and data monitoring solutions.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Risk Management, or related field.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications such as CRISC, CIPP, CDMP, or CISM.
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., financial services, insurance, healthcare).
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms, AI/ML data risks, and cross-border data compliance.
