Data Marketplace Director

Role Overview

This role leads Aon's global metadata management capability and the implementation of the data catalog. Leveraging experience in data catalog solutions, the director advocates for global teams to record metadata within the catalog, enabling re-use and reducing the risk of data duplication.

Core Responsibilities

  • Leadership:Provide leadership on metadata management, taxonomies, and the data catalogue across Aon.
  • Metadata Management:Own Aon's metadata management policies, standards, and operating model.
  • Data Catalogue:Lead the global roll-out of Aon's data catalogue solution (Alation) and advocate its benefits.
  • Collaboration:Work with data leaders in global D&A teams to curate metadata and lead the Data Marketplace Community of Practice.
  • Metadata Reporting:Monitor and report on data catalogue uptake and usage, taking action to maintain engagement.
  • Metadata Lifecycle Management:Plan and execute campaigns to encourage global D&A teams to curate metadata.
  • Value Creation:Demonstrate how metadata unlocks value by increasing visibility of data assets and ownership, enabling re-use.
  • Risk Reduction:Collaborate with global D&A teams to break down data silos and reduce duplication risks.

Experience Required

  • 8+ years in metadata management within regulated environments, leveraging industry-specific regulatory knowledge.
  • Significant experience leading metadata capabilities and data catalogue solutions (preferably Alation).
  • Demonstrable ability to develop metadata management strategy and build capability within a global organization.
  • Knowledge of industry guidelines and benchmarks for metadata curation.
  • Experience collaborating with technology and D&A teams to connect source systems across the data management lifecycle.
  • Strong influencing and persuasion skills to promote metadata management value to both technical and business colleagues.
  • Experience managing metadata repositories, business glossaries, and setting up training programs.
  • Demonstrated year-on-year improvements in data catalogue usage and application.

Valuable Certifications (or equivalents)

  • CDMP with Data Governance specialty
  • Alation Certified Data Catalog Professional
