As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in setting the direction and strategy for Db2 on the decentral Datawarehouse platform across the globe and in designing and building solutions in line with client's needs and to increase efficiency and decrease costs of these systems. This includes predictive automation, machine learning and data models that can help identify problem areas even before they occur, increase overall throughput and lower cost to run the environments.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Engineer you are responsible for planning, installation and maintenance of DBMS software and related software components. Responsible for problem management and problem determination of assigned software in AIX Db2 environment with DPF (database partitioning feature).

In detail:

  • Change and release management of our large and complex data warehouses.
  • Provide support and assistance to other work groups to meet their business objectives (plan, design and implement).
  • Provide technical assistance to the Application Developers, Business Reporters and Data Scientists in problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Tune complex SQL statements and optimize execution plans.
  • Collaborate in various infrastructure and/or client-related projects.
  • Develop maintenance and infrastructure scripts.

Additional responsibilities include the development of further automation opportunities, the analysis and implementation of various optimizations and to ensure performant and secure data access from different applications into Db2 on AIX Data Warehouse.

Your team

In our agile operating model, crews are aligned to larger products and services fulfilling client needs and encompassing multiple autonomous pods. You'll be working in the crew Midrange and Datawarehouse Services in Zurich focusing on

  • Designing and building solutions to automate the deployment, configuration and upgrade of the AIX Data Warehouse running on Db2 LUW with data partitioning feature (DPF).
  • Actively supporting WMPC business application in the database design, performance and monitoring area to guarantee correct and in time processing and to strengthen our position as leading wealth manager and the strongest universal bank in Switzerland.
  • In deep root cause analyses, providing and executing solutions to fix issues on the AIX DWH. This often requires close cooperation with the specialists from IBM's lab.
  • Design, plan and execute migration scenarios to transfer databases or parts of them to other environments with a minimal downtime.
  • Creating guidelines to make good and state of the art use of existing resources and to avoid cost intensive infrastructure lifecycles.

Your expertise

At least 7-8 years of experience in the Db2 LUW software area. Knowledge of the database partitioning feature. Hands on person with an overwhelming aim to serve and support the customer, when problems appear.

Specific Database related skills required are:

  • Database design experience (physical and logical) and deep knowledge in partitioned Databases
  • Knowledge in Data Modeling, Data Integration and Database Design structured methods for design (e.g Star schema, Snowflake etc.)
  • Knowledge in Data Architecture conceptual modelling methods
  • Database optimization techniques such as Partitioned Tables, SQL programming, Execution Plans, Data File management to support different usage, Indexes, LOB handling and XML optimization
  • Very good skills in performance tuning of complex SQL statements on AIX DWH
  • Dataflow analysis for performance improvements to reduce physical IO in a complex environment

Good skills in AIX operating systems architecture, design & implementation. Advanced programming skills in AIX shell (or Unix / Linux) and/or Perl.

You are a committed and visionary team player with analytical and logical mind-set, well organized with an innate sense of how to prioritize across a complex environment, a hands-on person with natural instincts to support our customers. In addition, you're curious, collaborative and constantly interested in learning new things, fluent in English and eager to work in an English-speaking global team.

Bachelor's degree in data engineering, big data analytics, computer engineering, or related field.

Master's degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
