Responsibilities
- Analyze and optimize slow or inefficient SQL and NoSQL queries across legacy systems.
- Profile and tune MySQL and Cassandra clusters for high throughput and low latency.
- Work closely with application teams to modernize schema designs and improve access patterns.
- Design database optimization strategies aligned with microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures.
- Collaborate with architects and DevOps engineers to support database migration plans to AWS.
- Implement observability and metrics around database performance, availability, and errors.
- Contribute to defining the modernization roadmap, including the potential use of cloud-native databases or managed services.
- Ensure security and data governance compliance with PCI DSS and ISO 27001 standards.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Engineer, DBA, or Performance Engineer.
- Strong experience with MySQL and Cassandra in high-traffic or distributed environments.
- Expertise in query profiling, execution plans, and indexing strategies.
- Strong understanding of database internals, clustering, and replication.
- Comfortable working in Linux environments, with experience troubleshooting at the OS and DB level.
- Familiarity with cloud migration strategies and AWS RDS / Aurora / DynamoDB / OpenSearch is a plus.
- Experience working with large legacy databases and designing incremental modernization plans.
- Knowledge of data security, masking, encryption, and compliance best practices.
