We are currently seeking a Data Engineer Advisor to join our team in Bangalore, Karnātaka (IN-KA), India (IN).

Data Engineer (SSAS Monitoring)

Job Description

Design, implement, and support the SSAS monitoring framework for cube availability, processing performance, sessions, memory, storage, dimensions, partitions, queries, and operational events. Develop SSAS DMV collectors, Extended Events sessions, ALETL log parsing, event correlation, derived metrics, baselines, thresholds, and RAG status. Implement scheduled, auditable, restartable, and low-overhead collection processes using SSAS DMVs, XMLA, Extended Events, T-SQL, and SQL Agent. Ensure monitoring data supports historical trends, datetime filtering, capacity analysis, Power BI reporting, and operational troubleshooting. Support testing, defect resolution, controlled deployment, production validation, technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer to support teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a reusable ALETL_Log parser to derive processing category, object, status, duration, and error details.
• Correlate ALETL events with RunContext and SSAS processing events without relying exclusively on timestamps.
• Handle malformed, duplicate, incomplete, and unmatched events while preserving auditability and restartability.
• Pair cube and partition processing start and end events to calculate duration, outcome, and failure reason.
• Establish separate weekday, weekend, and heavy-processing-window baselines.
• Develop SSAS DMV collectors for cube availability, sessions, memory, object storage, databases, partitions, and dimensions.
• Implement scheduled, auditable, restartable, and low-overhead collection using SQL Agent.
• Configure SSAS Extended Events for commands, processing, queries, sessions, errors, and resource consumption.
• Develop Extended Event ingestion, shredding, watermarking, duplicate prevention, and recovery processes.
• Calculate SSAS-derived metrics for query duration, slow queries, active users, processing resource consumption, command history, success rates, batch duration, and completion status.
• Configure warning and critical thresholds, effective dating, baseline comparisons, severity, and RAG status.
• Validate SSAS service and cube reachability and prepare datasets for Power BI reporting.
• Produce historical trends for cube, partition, dimension, database size, storage growth, and dimension row counts.
• Perform developer testing for collectors, event correlation, metric calculations, thresholds, restartability, permissions, completeness, and collection overhead.
• Support SIT, UAT, engineering-defect resolution, deployment, production validation, documentation, runbooks, and technical handover.

• Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server Analysis Services Multidimensional.
• Expert knowledge of SSAS DMVs and schema rowsets.
• SSAS Extended Events configuration, collection, ingestion, and troubleshooting.
• XMLA and SSAS metadata queries.
• Cube, database, dimension, measure-group, and partition processing.
• SSAS sessions, commands, query activity, memory, and object-storage monitoring.
• DISCOVER_CATALOGS, DISCOVER_SESSIONS, DISCOVER_MEMORY_USAGE, DISCOVER_OBJECT_MEMORY_USAGE, DISCOVER_DATABASES, DISCOVER_PARTITION_STAT, and DISCOVER_DIMENSION_STAT.
• CommandBegin, CommandEnd, ProgressReportBegin, ProgressReportEnd, QueryBegin, QueryEnd, SessionInitialize, SessionTerminate, ResourceUsage, and Error events.
• Advanced T-SQL, log parsing, event pairing, RunContext correlation, and duration calculation.
• SQL Agent scheduling, collector auditing, retry, restartability, and operational logging.
• Incremental ingestion, watermarking, idempotency, and duplicate prevention.
• Historical baselines, deviation analysis, thresholds, severity, and RAG modelling.
• Capacity, storage, dimension-growth, and processing-performance analysis.
• Performance diagnostics and production troubleshooting.
• Power BI-serving data and historical-trend requirements.
• Clear technical documentation, runbook preparation, and knowledge transfer.
