Job Description

The Data Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the organization's enterprise data architecture to ensure scalability, reliability, and security. This role involves working closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, analysts, and IT teams to translate business requirements into robust data models, data pipelines, and governance frameworks.

The Data Architect defines data standards, integration patterns, and metadata management practices to enable efficient data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Architecture & Design

  • Design and maintain the enterprise-wide data architecture (conceptual, logical, and physical data models).
  • Define data storage, data movement, and integration strategies across on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Develop data models that support analytics, AI/ML, and operational reporting needs.
  • Define and maintain data dictionaries, data lineage, and metadata management processes.

2. Data Integration & Management

  • Architect and oversee ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
  • Integrate data from multiple internal and external sources ensuring high data quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to optimize performance, scalability, and cost.
  • Enable real-time and batch data processing architectures using modern data tools and frameworks.

3. Data Governance & Security

  • Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and protection regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Security and Compliance teams to define access controls, encryption, and audit mechanisms.
  • Monitor data usage and implement data lifecycle management policies.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with business leaders, product managers, and analysts to understand data needs and translate them into scalable architectural solutions.
  • Collaborate with software architects to ensure data architecture aligns with overall enterprise architecture.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineers, analysts, and developers.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies for data modernization.
  • Optimize data systems for performance, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Document architectural decisions, standards, and roadmaps for ongoing improvement.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in data management and architecture roles.
  • Proven expertise in data modeling (conceptual, logical, and physical) and database design.
  • Strong knowledge of RDBMS (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB).
  • Strong Experience with data warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Synapse, etc.) and data lake architectures.
  • Proficiency in ETL/ELT tools (Informatica, Talend, dbt, Apache Nifi, etc.) and data orchestration (Airflow, Prefect).
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and services like S3, Glue, Databricks, or Data Factory.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, MDM, and metadata management.
  • Knowledge of data security practices, including encryption, access control, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with API-based integrations, microservices, and event-driven data pipelines (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Certification in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Azure Data Engineer Associate).
  • Experience implementing data mesh, data fabric, or modern data stack architectures.
  • Exposure to AI/ML data preparation pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of Python, SQL, and data transformation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with BI and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker).

  • Excellent documentation and presentation skills.
  • Leadership and mentoring of cross-functional teams.
