What they own

The Databricks platform itself — the account, the Unity Catalog metastore and its governance model, the Delta Lakehouse architecture, the Terraform foundation, and the compute budget. Everyone else on the data side builds inside the standards this person sets.

Must have —

• Has administered a Databricks account or workspace, not only worked inside one. This is the single most important filter.

• Designed a Unity Catalog metastore: catalog and schema topology, external locations, identity/group federation, access controls.

• Written Terraform (or equivalent) for data infrastructure — authored it, not merely consumed someone else's modules.

• Owned Delta Lake architecture at scale: table and partition design, schema evolution, table maintenance.

• 10+ years total, with 3+ years at Staff, Lead, or Principal scope — setting direction others followed.

• Personally accountable for cloud or platform cost at some point, with a specific decision they can describe.

Strong signal —

• Stood up a greenfield Databricks account, especially alongside Databricks professional services or a partner.

• Migrated a Hive metastore to Unity Catalog, or led a governance retrofit on a live estate.

• Authored the platform standards or design docs that other engineering teams were required to follow.

• Has worked at a company that ran its own Databricks estate rather than consuming a central one.
