About the Data and Analytics Function:
By joining the Data, Analytics and AI Hub within Officeworks Global Capability Centre (GCC), you will play a pivotal role in enabling business growth and performance through insight, intelligence and innovation. You will support executing the strategy and accelerate the shift to a more digital and AI-native organization. You'll help build advanced capabilities that sit at the core of how the business understands customers, informs decisions, invests wisely, and delivers measurable value.
The GCC is a critical enabler of Officeworks purpose, by providing data-driven insights, trusted analytics, and scalable AI solutions that empower smarter, faster decision making and support sustainable success.

Why this role exists:
The Data Architect designs and owns solution-level and domain-level data architectures to ensure Officeworks data is scalable, secure, and interoperable across the enterprise. The role supports the Technology function by designing solutions that bridge high-level strategy with technical execution, driving the continuous improvement of data practices and architectural standards. By applying governance and defining end-to-end data flows, this position plays a critical role in the democratization of data and the successful integration of emerging AI and machine learning initiatives into the Snowflake enterprise data platform, and any source-of-record system as may be required.
Additionally, this role will influence the substance and priorities of the Enterprise Data Strategy and will have ongoing engagement with the Enterprise Architecture team within Officeworks.

Architecture Design and Ownership:
- Design and own solution-level and domain-level data architectures, including logical and physical data models.
- Ensure all designs are aligned with specific business requirements (functional and non-functional) .and the technical capabilities of the Snowflake platform.
- Define end-to-end data flows and integration designs for new initiatives, focusing on API-led and event-driven patterns.
Governance and Standards:
- Apply, govern, and enforce enterprise data standards and canonical models as defined by the Enterprise Data Architect.
- Ensure consistency, interoperability, and reuse of data assets across different business domains and initiatives.
- Review, assure, and approve data designs to validate scalability, performance, and security.
Continuous Improvement and Process Optimization:
- Identify and implement process improvements within the data architecture lifecycle to enhance delivery speed and quality.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to mature Officeworks data modelling, documentation, and governance frameworks.
- Evaluate existing data structures to recommend optimizations that reduce technical debt and improve platform efficiency.
Technical Leadership and Influence:
- Provide expert guidance to Technical Leads and engineering teams on compliant data modelling practices.
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex or cross-domain data design issues.
- Support the execution of the enterprise data strategy, moving the business toward a self-serve analytics model.
Who you will be working with:
- Technology Leadership: Partner with the Data Platform Manager and Enterprise Data Architect to align solution designs with the overarching technology roadmap.
- Data and AI Teams: Collaborate with Technical Associate Managers and AI Engineers to provide the architectural foundations for machine learning and AI initiatives.
- Engineering and Delivery Teams: Work closely with Data Modellers, Engineers, and QA Associate Analysts to ensure technical execution matches architectural intent.
- Internal Business Partners: Engage with functional stakeholders to translate business reporting and analytics requirements into effective data models.

Qualifications and work experience:
Essential:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience: 5-7+ years experience in Data Architecture or Data Modelling roles within complex enterprise environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong expertise in Snowflake, GitHub, and modern data integration patterns (API-led, event-driven).
- Process Improvement: Proven ability to identify process gaps and implement continuous improvement initiatives within a technical or architectural context.
- Modelling Expertise: Proven track record in designing logical and physical data models and implementing canonical models.
- Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated ability to influence Technical Leads and senior stakeholders, providing clear architectural direction and resolving complex design conflicts.
- Adaptability: A high degree of adaptability with the ability to understand and support the leap from traditional ML to emerging AI technologies.
Preferred:
- Post-Graduate Certifications: Post graduate studies and specialist certifications in data and architecture are highly valued.
- Industry Experience: Experience within the Retail industry or large-scale omnichannel environments.
- Platform Experience: Familiarity with SAP BW, Datasphere, or large-scale migrations from legacy environments to cloud-based platforms.
