Job Description

Damper Yoke - Lead Engineer

Experience: 10-15 years

Role Summary

Own end-to-end delivery of the damper yoke / clevis / mounting interface components across the product development lifecycle-from concept and requirements definition through detailed design, validation, and launch support. Lead technical decision making, integration with adjacent suspension systems, supplier technical delivery, and ensure quality, cost, weight, durability, and timing targets are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • System / module ownership: define architecture, targets, load cases, and requirement cascade for damper yoke and mounting interfaces.
  • Lead design strategy and integration across damper, knuckle, control arm, spring module, bushings, fasteners, and vehicle package interfaces.
  • Drive packaging feasibility across full suspension travel, jounce/rebound, steering envelope, wheel envelope, brake clearance, and serviceability.
  • Lead DFMEA, DVP&R, design reviews, tolerance stack-up reviews, and release readiness for damper yoke components.
  • Define validation strategy for strength, durability, fatigue, stiffness, corrosion, abuse loading, and vehicle-level robustness.
  • Supplier technical leadership: RFQ support, technical specification creation, drawing/design reviews, issue closure, APQP/PPAP readiness.
  • Lead root cause analysis for cracks, deformation, durability failures, NVH/noise issues, fastener loosening, and interface concerns.
  • Program execution: manage risks, maturity, gateway deliverables, change control, and design release timing.
  • Team handling: mentor engineers, review work packages, guide CAD/CAE activities, and ensure delivery to project milestones.

Required Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech/M.E. in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering or equivalent.
  • 10-15+ years relevant automotive chassis / suspension product development experience.
  • Strong understanding of suspension load paths, damper mounting interfaces, brackets/yokes/clevis design, fasteners, bushings, and structural durability.
  • Experience leading suppliers and cross-functional teams across design, CAE, testing, manufacturing, quality, and program teams.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing feasibility for forged, cast, machined, stamped, welded, or fabricated suspension components.

Tools & Platforms

  • CAD: CATIA V5/V6
  • PLM: Teamcenter / ENOVIA or equivalent
  • Quality & Delivery: DFMEA, DVP&R, 8D/5-Why, APQP/PPAP

Nice to Have

  • Hybrid/HEV vehicle exposure.
  • Experience working in a structured product development environment: PDP / APQP / PPAP.
  • Experience with damper / suspension module supplier development and vehicle durability issue resolution.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder management.
  • Structured problem-solving mindset and data-driven decision making.
  • Ownership, attention to detail, and delivery discipline.
  • Ability to work with global suppliers and multi-site teams.
