Customer Data Quality Manager

Role Summary

This role leads customer data operations for athenahealth with responsibility for data quality, data research, and the coordination of CRM data management activities across teams. Based in Chennai, India, this is an in-person role designed to support business priorities through structured execution, cross-functional partnership, and operational consistency. The position focuses on improving the reliability, usability, and governance of customer data to support Customer Success, Marketing, and Sales initiatives. This person will report to the Director, Data Operations.

Team Summary

The Customer Data Quality Team is responsible for end-to-end CRM data management, including data quality, data research, and the operational processes that support accurate and dependable customer information. The team works across Salesforce, CRM fusion tools, and marketing automation tools to maintain data integrity and enable effective business decision-making.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Lead customer data operations activities to support data quality, data research, and CRM data management across business functions.
  • Manage and develop a team responsible for maintaining accurate, complete, and usable customer data.Coordinate with stakeholders across Customer Success, Marketing, Sales, and Data Operations to align priorities and address data needs.
  • Oversee project delivery for customer data initiatives, including planning, execution, tracking, and issue resolution.Establish operating processes and controls that support consistent data quality and scalable team performance.
  • Monitor key data quality metrics, identify trends, and drive actions to reduce recurring data issues.Partner with technical and business teams to support Salesforce, CRM fusion tools, and marketing automation tools used in customer data workflows.
  • Coach team members on service quality, workflow execution, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Apply AI tools and AI-assisted workflows where appropriate to streamline data analysis, summarize information, and improve productivity while reviewing outputs for accuracy and business relevance.Support change management efforts for new processes, tools, and operating models related to customer data operations.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to documentation of team procedures, operational standards, and data handling guidelines.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and team capability-building activities as the function grows.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve automation and reduce manual effort in data operations.
  • Support audits, governance checks, and periodic reviews of customer data processes.
  • Collaborate on cross-functional initiatives that affect CRM data flow or reporting quality.
  • Provide input on team capacity planning and work allocation.
  • Escalate risks, dependencies, and process gaps in a timely manner to leadership.
  • Take part in special projects related to customer data operations as assigned.

Expected Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Operations, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 15 + years of experience in customer data operations, CRM operations, data management, or a related function.
  • Experience leading people, including coaching, performance support team development, stakeholder management across business and technical groups.
  • Experience in project management, including planning, tracking, coordination, and delivery of multiple workstreams.Working knowledge of Salesforce, CRM fusion tools, and marketing automation tools.
  • Experience managing data quality processes, issue resolution, and operational controls.Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a structured, in-person operating environment and support cross-functional delivery.
