Summary:

As a Custom Software Engineer, a typical day involves creating tailored software solutions by designing, coding, and improving various components within systems or applications. The role requires working with modern development frameworks and following agile methodologies to ensure the delivery of scalable and efficient software that meets unique business requirements. Collaboration with team members and continuous refinement of solutions to adapt to evolving project needs are integral parts of the daily workflow.

Role Description :

Take technical ownership for TEM (Transport Emission Measurement) application

Take technical ownership for the delivery of new features

Take leading role within TEM engineering team

Develop and operate TEM application

Develop and operate TEM Data Product

Collaborate closely with product management and business analysts

Develop and operate infrastructure (on top of provided cloud platform / AWS)

Ensure quality for delivered code and end-2-end data processing.

Contribute to test automation and test coverage

Skills:

Java (11+, preferably 21) and Spring framework experience Maven build tooling and Docker packaging.

Experience with Kafka (producers/consumers), Confluent Schema Registry and Kafka Connect. Python scripting for automation, Lambda helpers and data tooling (Python 3.11 preferred).

Terraform (v1.4.x compatible) plus hands-on AWS experience: ECS/ECR, Lambda, SQS, SecretsManager, Aurora, ElastiCache, Route53, KMS, cross-account roles, EKS.

Strong SQL (Snowflake) including complex queries, window functions, performance tuning and data modelling.

Practical experience with Flyway (or similar DB migration tooling) and SQL CI/CD pipelines via GitLab CI.

CI/CD and container workflows (GitLab CI, Docker) and secrets handling with SOPS/CodeArtifact are expected.

Observability: structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing and troubleshooting in distributed systems.

Comfortable operating across data, backend and infra domains pragmatic and security-aware.

Strong collaboration and documentation skills able to translate business requirements into data and service contracts.

Test-driven mindset for code and data experience writing reproducible validation queries and automation.

High focus on exact implementation and quality assurance for data centric applications

Experience

5+ years across combinations of data engineering, backend development and cloud platform work (or equivalent breadth). This position is based at our Chennai office. - A 15 year full-time education is required.
