Job Description
Project Role : Custom Software Engineer
Project Role Description : Develop custom software solutions to design, code, and enhance components across systems or applications. Use modern frameworks and agile practices to deliver scalable, high-performing solutions tailored to specific business needs.
Must have skills : SAP MM Materials Management
Good to have skills : NA
Minimum 7.5 Year(s) Of Experience Is Required
Educational Qualification : 15 years full time education
Summary:
As an SAP MM Procure-to-Pay Consultant, you will execute configuration, build and test work to an approved design, accountable for the quality of your own deliverables for MM-P2P Processes within the Procurement tower of the DRS SAP programme. The role exists to own the end-to-end procure-to-pay chain, where the majority of production incidents arise at the interfaces between purchasing, receipt, invoice and payment.
Delivery quality is personal at this level. Performance is assessed on configuration that holds under integration test, on defect recurrence, and on documentation complete enough for another engineer to assume ownership. AI-assisted engineering is expected as standard practice, with every generated output validated before transport.
You report to a Manager within the module team and work directly with test, downstream module and master data teams.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Scope & Decision Rights: Execute within an approved design. You determine how a configuration item is built, tested and documented design changes, scope calls and estimates are escalated to the workstream lead.
End-to-End P2P Design: Execute and maintain the process chain from requisition through purchase order, goods receipt and invoice verification to the handoff into Accounts Payable, and keep the design consistent across its stages.
Three-Way Match & Tolerances: Configure invoice verification, three-way match behaviour, tolerance keys and blocking and release logic so that genuine exceptions are surfaced and routine volume clears automatically.
GR/IR Integrity: Execute and maintain GR/IR clearing behaviour and automatic account determination, and lead the analysis and clean-up when the GR/IR account stops reconciling.
Invoice Exception Handling: Configure and support invoice blocking, release, duplicate checking and EDI inbound invoice processing, including the reprocessing route for failures.
Integration & Dependencies: Work closely with the Finance tower, which owns Accounts Payable and the payment run, and with Inventory Management for goods receipt postings. Define the boundary explicitly rather than assuming it.
Delivery Execution & Quality: Deliver assigned configuration, build and test items against sprint commitments, with configuration rationale, unit test evidence and cutover steps documented to handover standard.
Defect Diagnosis & Resolution: Investigate defects and incidents affecting GR/IR reconciliation breaking down or invoice blocks accumulating faster than they can be cleared, isolating root cause across configuration, master data and interface layers and confirming resolution through regression.
AI-Assisted Engineering & Joule: Apply AI assistants to analyse tolerance and account determination configuration, generate P2P test scenarios and summarise invoice block reasons, validating every generated output against system behaviour before transport. Use SAP Joule for Consultants for configuration guidance and troubleshooting, and flag manual steps in the module that are candidates for a Joule agent.
Knowledge Transfer: Document reusable configuration patterns, support analysts joining the workstream, and escalate blockers promptly.
Collaboration: Work with functional leads, test teams and downstream modules, reporting item status in terms of delivery impact.
Professional & Technical Skills:
Must-Have Skills
Procure-to-Pay Process Depth: Hands-on configuration across requisition, purchase order, goods receipt and logistics invoice verification in S/4HANA or ECC.
Invoice Verification & Tolerances: Working expertise in LIV, tolerance configuration, blocking and release, duplicate invoice checking and invoice exception handling.
Account Determination: Working expertise in automatic account determination and the MM to FI posting interface, including GR/IR behaviour.
Interface Invoice Processing: Practical experience with EDI or API based inbound invoice processing and its error handling at volume.
Cross-Module Diagnosis: Capability to trace a P2P failure across MM, FI and the interface layer and identify the true origin.
AI-Assisted Delivery: Evidenced use of AI coding and analysis assistants in live SAP delivery, demonstrable through the specific outputs produced and the validation applied.
SAP Joule for Consultants: Working use of SAP Joule for Consultants in configuration and troubleshooting, including verification of the guidance returned against actual system behaviour. Where prior Joule exposure is absent, working proficiency is expected within 90 days of joining.
Evidence of AI Adoption: Demonstrable adoption of AI in delivery work. This may be evidenced through use of AI coding or analysis assistants, or through equivalent contribution such as reusable accelerators, scripted automation of recurring delivery tasks, or codified patterns adopted by others.
Delivery Discipline: Record of meeting sprint commitments on an enterprise SAP programme, with defect and rework rates that withstood review.
Ownership & Communication: Capable of working an ambiguous defect to root cause independently and of stating clearly when a committed date is at risk.
Good to Have Skills
SAP Ariba Invoice Management
Invoice capture solutions such as OpenText VIM
SAP Central Finance touchpoints
Automation of invoice exception handling
Additional Information:
A 15-year full-time education is required, as stated in the approved demand record.
Minimum 7.5 years of experience on the primary skill, as specified in the approved demand record.
Hands-on configuration and build experience across at least one full SAP implementation or major rollout.
Specific, evidenced examples of AI-assisted work in a production SAP delivery context.
Working proficiency in SAP Joule for Consultants, either held on appointment or achieved within 90 days of joining.
