Job Description

Role Summary:

The Clinician Credentialing Specialist is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, verification, and compliance of clinician credentials in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. This role ensures that all clinician records remain current, accurate, and audit-ready by managing credentialing mailboxes, Certificates of Insurance (COIs), and automated verification of licensure and compliance documentation within defined calendar timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and process credentialing maintenance activities for clinicians, ensuring compliance with internal policies, payer requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Handle and monitor the Credentials Mailbox and Certificate of Insurance (COI) requests, completing tasks within established calendar timelines and SLAs.
  • Conduct verification of clinician credentials and licenses for the following transaction types:

o Clinician demographic updates

o Clinician salutation updates

o Board certifications (MDs and PAs only)

o State professional licenses

o DEA licenses

o CDS licenses

o Malpractice insurance records

o Driver's licenses

o Health and immunization records

o Other compliance-related documentation

o Certificates of Insurance (COIs)

  • Ensure timely identification, tracking, and resolution of expired, expiring, or discrepant credentials.
  • Update and maintain accurate clinician records in credentialing and provider management systems.
  • Maintain proper documentation to support audits, recredentialing, and regulatory reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal credentialing, compliance, and operations teams to support uninterrupted clinician participation.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines and data privacy standards while handling sensitive clinician information.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in clinician/provider credentialing maintenance, healthcare operations, or compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of clinician licensure, certifications, and ongoing credentialing requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to manage multiple maintenance activities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Experience working with credentialing systems, databases, and shared mailboxes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and payer credentialing standards (state, federal, and organizational).
