Job description: Costing Manager

Location: Yelahanka, Bangalore

About The Gig

The Costing Manager will be responsible for end-to-end product cost estimation, BOM validation, cost control, and value engineering initiatives. This role will work closely with Engineering, SCM, Finance, and Program teams to ensure accurate cost modeling and continuous cost optimization across vehicle platforms.

What You'll Do

Product Costing & Estimation

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for new products, variants, and engineering changes.
  • Conduct bottom-up costing based on drawings, BOM, material selection, process assumptions, and supplier inputs.
  • Validate supplier quotations against internal cost models.
  • Develop and maintain cost breakdown structures for key aggregates (battery pack, motor, controller, chassis, plastics, electronics, etc.).

BOM & Cost Control

  • Own and track BOM cost roll-ups during development and production phases.
  • Monitor cost impact of ECNs and design changes.
  • Support target costing initiatives to meet margin and pricing objectives.

Value Engineering & Cost Reduction

  • Drive cost reduction programs in collaboration with Design and SCM teams.
  • Identify opportunities for material substitution, process optimization, and localization.
  • Track savings initiatives and report cost improvement metrics.

Supplier Commercial Evaluation

  • Analyze supplier quotations, tooling costs, amortization structures, and commercial terms.
  • Support negotiations through fact-based costing analysis.
  • Benchmark supplier costs across the market.

Program & Financial Coordination

  • Work closely with Program Management for cost tracking during NPI.
  • Support Finance in margin analysis, pricing models, and business case evaluations.
  • Provide cost inputs for annual budgeting and forecasting exercises.

Reporting & Governance

  • Develop cost dashboards and reports for leadership review.
  • Maintain cost databases and historical benchmarks.
  • Ensure cost transparency across cross-functional stakeholders.

What You Bring

  • Strong understanding of automotive/EV product costing methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of materials (sheet metal, casting, plastics, electronics, battery systems).
  • Strong analytical and Excel/modeling skills.
  • Commercial acumen with negotiation support capability.
  • High ownership mindset with attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering (MBA in Finance or Operations preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in Product Costing, Commercial, or Value Engineering roles.
  • Experience in automotive, EV, mobility, or manufacturing environment preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with EV aggregates (battery pack, BMS, motor, controller).
  • Exposure to APQP, NPI, and SOP transitions.
  • Experience working in high-growth startup environments
