Mind the Graph is a tool to help scientists, academics and healthcare professionals to transform their complex scientific content into simple, didactic, and beautiful science figures, offering a much better alternative to the excessive Google images searches and high-priced freelance services. The company explored the tendency of using graphical abstracts in scientific publications as a great business opportunity worldwide. In 2022, Mind the Graph became part of Cactus Communications, a science communication and technology company. Mind the Graph's online platform and technology is now available to researchers under the suite of solutions offered by Editage, CACTUS's flagship brand.

As a MedicalIllustrator, you will create accurate and visually compelling medical and scientific illustrations that communicate complex concepts with clarity. You will work on projects ranging from surgical and anatomical illustrations, scientific diagrams, and 3D/2D medical visuals. Collaborating closely with scientific writers and clients, you will ensure each illustration aligns with scientific accuracy, design quality, and client needs.

Note - This is a 6 months contractual role.

Design & delivery:

• Create high-quality science, medical and surgical illustrations and anatomical drawings.
• Collaborate with scientific writers and clients to understand technical content and translate it into precise and impactful visuals.
• Identify gaps in Mind the Graph's illustration library and templates, and design new assets to expand and strengthen the catalogue.
• Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in representing scientific and medical subjects.
• Work on a wide variety of projects, including medical figure enhancements, journal covers, graphical abstracts, and educational diagrams.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining design excellence.
• Review and evaluate outputs from AI illustration models to identify best-performing approaches and support their implementation within Mind the Graph.

Quality management:

• Your responsibilities span both production and quality governance, directly influencing product reliability, scientific accuracy, and customer satisfaction. MTG's differentiation hinges on scientifically accurate and beautifully crafted illustrations.
• Ensure scientific accuracy in every deliverable by reviewing source material and verifying details.
• Provide creative input and feedback to improve overall project output.

• Illustration Expertise: Proven ability to create accurate and detailed medical and scientific illustrations.
• Scientific Knowledge: Ability to understand and accurately depict science, human anatomy, physiology, and medical concepts in visual form.
• Design Tools: Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop. Experience with 3D illustration tools (e.g., Blender, Cinema4D, ZBrush, or equivalent) is a strong plus.
• Visual Communication: Ability to simplify and visualize complex medical concepts for scientific as well as lay audiences.
• Collaboration: Strong communication skills to work effectively with writers, scientists, and clients.
• Organization: Capable of handling multiple projects and tight deadlines with precision and focus.
• Mindset: Detail-oriented, curious, and eager to blend art with science to create impactful visuals
• 5-7 years of professional experience as a Medical Illustrator (or related role in scientific/medical visualization)
• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Medical Illustration, Biomedical Visualization, Life Sciences, or related fields.
• Strong portfolio showcasing anatomical, surgical, and scientific illustrations.
