The Consultant Neurologist will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing neurological disorders in patients across various age groups. The role involves outpatient consultations, inpatient care, performing diagnostic procedures, and providing long-term care for patients with chronic neurological conditions. The Consultant Neurologist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, guide junior residents, and contribute to academic and research activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, headache, neuropathy, and dementia.
- Conduct comprehensive neurological evaluations, including physical exams, history-taking, and interpretation of diagnostic tests (e.g., EEG, EMG, MRI, CT scans).
- Manage and treat acute neurological emergencies like stroke, status epilepticus, and head injuries.
- Offer long-term management plans for patients with chronic neurological diseases (e.g., Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, etc.).
- Perform diagnostic procedures such as lumbar punctures, nerve conduction studies, and EEGs.
- Develop individualized treatment plans, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies.
- Collaborate with other specialists (e.g., neurosurgeons, physiatrists) for a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Provide inpatient care, including daily rounds, progress monitoring, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and their families about neurological conditions, treatment options, and lifestyle changes.
- Supervise and guide junior residents and medical students in the department.
- Participate in case discussions, journal clubs, clinical research, and educational activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients in accordance with hospital guidelines.
