Who are we looking for
We are looking for an experienced Machining and Cost Optimisation Consultant for a critical engagement with a leading global consulting firm. This opportunity is part of a broader cost optimisation programme aimed at streamlining production costs and improving procurement strategies. As a machining consultant, you will play a pivotal role in identifying cost-saving opportunities, developing zero-based cost models, and driving efficiencies in metal cutting and machining operations.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Analyse and optimise machining processes, including metal cutting and component manufacturing for items like nuts, bolts, and related hardware.
- Develop and implement zero-based cost sheets to evaluate and restructure procurement and production expenses from the ground up.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including procurement specialists, engineers, and client stakeholders, to identify inefficiencies and recommend cost-reduction strategies.
- Conduct audits and assessments of supply chain practices to enhance sourcing decisions and vendor management.
- Provide expert guidance on best practices in machining and cost optimisation, influencing key operational decisions and solution implementations.
- Monitor project progress and deliver regular reports on cost savings achieved, ensuring alignment with the client's strategic goals.
Your Background:
- 5–15 years of professional experience in machining, cost optimisation, and related fields within manufacturing or automotive sectors.
- Proven expertise in zero-based cost sheets, metal cutting, machining processes, nuts/bolts production, and procurement strategies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive data-driven decisions.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with automotive industry standards and supply chain management tools is highly advantageous.

- Duration: This is a 12-month contract role, with strong potential for extension based on project performance and evolving client needs.
- Location: The position is based in Chennai, India, and the consultant will be required to be full-time on-site to facilitate close collaboration with the client's teams.
