We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager – Electrical to lead the execution and delivery of electrical construction activities for utility-scale solar and renewable energy EPC projects. The role will be responsible for managing electrical construction from planning and execution through testing, commissioning, and energization, while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, schedule, cost, and project requirements.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in HV/LV electrical construction, solar EPC projects, contractor management, project execution, and stakeholder coordination, along with proven leadership experience managing large teams and complex project environments.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Construction Management
- Lead and oversee execution of HV/LV electrical works for utility-scale solar projects.
- Manage module stringing, inverter installation, transformer installation, HT yard works, cable laying, cable termination, earthing, and SCADA-related installations.
- Ensure electrical construction activities comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, IEC/IS standards, grid codes, and project requirements.
- Develop construction methodologies, work sequencing, execution strategies, and site plans for electrical scope.
- Provide technical guidance and resolve complex electrical construction and site execution issues.
Planning, Scheduling & Project Control
- Review and finalize electrical construction schedules, micro-plans, and manpower deployment plans.
- Coordinate with planning teams to establish realistic execution targets and work fronts.
- Monitor construction progress against baseline schedules and implement corrective actions to minimize delays.
- Optimize manpower, equipment, materials, and work fronts to improve productivity and project cost efficiency.
- Track key milestones and ensure timely readiness for testing, commissioning, and energization.
Stakeholder & Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Act as the primary interface with clients, consultants, OEMs, EPC partners, contractors, and subcontractors for electrical construction activities.
- Coordinate with civil, mechanical, commissioning, QA/QC, and HSE teams for seamless project execution.
- Lead electrical construction review meetings and drive closure of technical and interdisciplinary issues.
- Maintain effective communication with project management and senior leadership.
Quality Assurance & Technical Oversight
- Implement and enforce quality management systems for electrical construction activities.
- Review and approve method statements, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), technical submittals, and construction procedures.
- Ensure electrical installations meet approved specifications, drawings, and applicable standards.
- Monitor and drive timely closure of NCRs and corrective/preventive actions.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and improved construction practices.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Promote a strong electrical safety culture across project sites.
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE policies, statutory requirements, and electrical safety standards.
- Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, toolbox meetings, and incident investigations.
- Ensure safe execution of HV/LV works, cable installation, testing, energization, and other electrical activities.
Material, Equipment & Contractor Management
- Plan and coordinate procurement, mobilization, and availability of electrical materials, equipment, tools, and resources.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance, productivity, quality, and compliance with contractual requirements.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, installation, and utilization of electrical materials.
- Minimize material losses, wastage, rework, and construction delays.
Risk Management & Issue Resolution
- Identify electrical construction risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Lead resolution of design conflicts, interface challenges, resource constraints, and execution bottlenecks.
- Support change management, claims, variation assessments, and commercial discussions related to electrical construction scope.
- Proactively identify potential schedule and execution risks and implement mitigation measures.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Review and approve daily, weekly, and monthly electrical construction progress reports.
- Track project KPIs, milestones, productivity, manpower, and work-front availability.
- Provide accurate progress and risk updates to project management and senior leadership.
- Ensure construction documentation and records are maintained accurately.
Regulatory & External Coordination
- Coordinate with statutory authorities, utilities, third-party inspectors, and other external agencies.
- Facilitate electrical inspections, approvals, testing, and energization clearances.
- Ensure compliance with local electrical regulations, grid codes, IEC/IS standards, and project-specific requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
- 12–25 years of experience in electrical construction and project execution.
- Significant experience in utility-scale solar, renewable energy, or EPC projects.
- Strong hands-on experience in HV/LV electrical construction and solar power plant electrical systems.
- Proven experience managing large teams, multiple contractors, subcontractors, and high-value projects.
- Experience across electrical installation, testing, commissioning, and energization activities.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction standards, safety requirements, quality processes, and project controls.
