Conflicts Attorney / Legal Billing Attorney / Litigation Counsel (Non-Court Facing)
Position Overview
As an Attorney Conflicts & Legal Review, you will support global law firms by:
- Conduct conflicts checks and party research that safeguard the firm's risk posture.
- Conflict Analyst
- Performing substantive legal invoice and guideline review to ensure billing is fully compliant and defensible.
We interview into one combined attorney pipeline and then, based on your experience and interests, align you toward:
- A Conflicts Attorney path (conflicts searches, research, risk analysis),
- A Legal Review Attorney path (invoice/legal spend review, guideline interpretation, client advisory),
- Or a blended path over time as your experience grows.
You'll work closely with attorneys, billing teams, and administrative professionals across our clients organizations, translating complex data and documents into decision-ready, business-focused recommendations.
Schedule Monday through Friday - 6:30 PM to 3:30 AM IST
What You'll Do
Conflicts & Matter Intake
- Conduct conflicts searches using firm databases and research tools.
- Perform corporate/party research using commercial databases and open-source tools.
- Analyze results to spot potential conflicts, related-party issues, and risk factors.
- Prepare concise, structured summaries that attorneys can rely on for clearance decisions.
- Interpret and work with pleadings, orders, corporate filings, and other legal documents to understand parties, relationships, and issues.
Legal Invoice & Guideline Review
- Review legal invoices or pre-bills for compliance with client billing guidelines, court rules, and matter-specific instructions.
- Assess staffing, time spent, task necessity, and reasonableness using your litigation and practice experience.
- Review system-generated changes and perform detailed manual review of time entries.
- Generate and interpret invoice preparation or exception reports; recommend corrective actions to law firms.
- Communicate with law firms and their billing/administrative teams to clarify entries, obtain documentation, and align on necessary changes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Client Service
- Partner with law firm attorneys, legal assistants, billing, and accounting teams to ensure matters are cleared and invoices are prepared accurately and on time.
- Provide responsive, solutions-focused support to internal stakeholders and external clients.
- Maintain a high standard of discretion and judgment when handling highly confidential information.
Quality, Process & Special Projects
- Maintain high accuracy and consistency across conflicts analysis and invoice reviews.
- Contribute to documenting and improving workflows, checklists, and playbooks.
- Legal Analyst
- Participate in training, process improvement initiatives, and special projects as assigned.
What You Bring
Education & Experience
- Law degree (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent) required.
- 2+ years of post-qualification experience in one or more of the following:
- Law firm conflicts, intake, research, or docketing, and/or
- Insurance defense / workers compensation defense, litigation practice, or
- direct experience working with insurance companies, OR Legal billing/eBilling review with heavy exposure to client billing guidelines.
Core Legal & Analytical Skills
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret legal documents, including pleadings, orders, corporate filings, billing guidelines, and court rules.
- Strong analytical research skills: you can sift through data, identify risks or exceptions, and present clear, concise conclusions with appropriate flags.
- Ability to apply legal judgment to questions of conflict, reasonableness of time entries, and compliance with rules and guidelines.
Communication & Client Service
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; able to explain complex issues in plain language to both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong client-service mindset and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across teams and time zones.
Work Style & Tools
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple matters/invoices in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail, coupled with a proactive, curious approach to resolving issues rather than simply flagging them.
- Technically adept: proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfort working with databases, eBilling, and research tools.
