Concept Development Planning plays a key role in the early maturation of Exxon Mobil's business opportunities. It includes the creation of conceptual development plans, integration of data across functions (e.g. engineers, geoscientists, operators, and commercial) to build and test business cases, and management of an opportunity through the activities of concept selection and business-line decision to proceed into front-end engineering design (FEED). As custodians of the Corporation's opportunity management framework, Development Planners integrate global technical, commercial, and project expertise to evaluate options, characterize risks, and provide the right information and perspectives to drive unbiased, value-based decision making.

Personnel in this team demonstrate the following skills:

  • Technical depth of knowledge in the oil and gas industry, preferably with hands-on experience (e.g. projects, drilling, operations)
  • Commercial/profitability analysis to build, run, and interpret results of economic models
  • Business acumen, use of judgement, and an analytical approach to problem solving
  • Decision-framing and decision-making in an environment of high uncertainty
  • Coordination, collaboration, and influence without direct authority to lead teams and manage interfaces
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written

Concept Development Planner roles are available in Low Carbon Solutions, Product Solutions, and Upstream businesses including:

  • Helping reduce emissions by providing solutions to our industrial and commercial customers in growing markets for carbon capture, transportation, and storage (CCS) hydrogen and biofuels
  • Integrating our downstream and chemical operations to develop lower-emission fuels and innovative products critical to modern society
  • Focused on strengthening energy security by expanding low-cost-of-supply, high-return oil and natural gas operations

What will you do

  • Execute opportunity evaluations generate appropriate screening concepts, develop or lead the development of the technical, execution, and commercial bases, and analyze resulting risks and economic metrics in pursuit of maximizing shareholder value
  • Understand developmental, operational, fiscal, and Corporate strategic levers to explore and test pathways to commerciality and profitability
  • Identify, characterize, and communicate the opportunity's critical value drivers, risks and uncertainties
  • Define, acquire, and analyze information needed to reduce uncertainties sufficiently to establish the business case, as appropriate for the asset type and phase of development
  • Develop, maintain, and use economic models and their results to support business decisions
  • Represent recommended course of action to senior decision makers, including external stakeholders such as co-venture company managers and government authorities

About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Geoscience from a recognized university with CGPA 6 or above
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in oil & gas, refining, petrochemical, LNG and hydrocarbon industry or an energy-adjacent industry
  • Should be willing to relocate to Bengaluru
  • Should notbeinterviewed in past 12 months for the Concept Development Planner position in ExxonMobil

Job Role Description

The Development Planning Advisor - Advanced is responsible for the early evaluation of new opportunities by defining technical and execution strategies, building business cases, and conducting economic analyses to support sound decision-making. The Development Planning Advisor - Advanced operates in high-uncertainty environments, coordinating multi-functional team inputs to explore a broad range of technical and commercial concepts. They develop and / or leverage existing tools to assess opportunities in early evaluation and concept selection stages and effectively communicate recommendations to key stakeholders. The Development Planning Advisor - Advanced has demonstrated DP skills and breadth of DP experience and may also serve as Select Stage Manager or Opportunity Manager for less complex projects

Job Role Responsibilities

- Define, acquire, and analyze information required to evaluate a new project opportunity. Coordinate multi-functional teams to reduce uncertainty, screen a business case, and progress opportunity to early project decision gate
- Support Select Stage Manager and may lead lower complexity Concept Select opportunity by evaluating development alternatives and highlighting optimal concepts aligned with business objectives
- Develop or lead the development of the technical and execution basis for screening concepts. Challenge the team to find creative ways to maximize value to the corporation. Engage company experts when appropriate to ensure a wide range of technical and commercial concepts are thoroughly evaluated and compared
- Generate, maintain, steward, and use economic models to support business decisions. Perform economic analysis to test potential project outcomes and inform business and funding decisions
- Represent recommended course of action to internal and external decision makers
