SUMMARY:
The CNC Programmer is responsible for creating, modifying, and optimizing CNC programs using Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software to support efficient and accurate machining operations. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate tooling, and ensuring programs meet quality, productivity, and safety requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop CNC machining programs using CAM software for milling, turning, and multi-axis machining centers.
- Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications to generate accurate machining programs.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining strategies to optimize productivity and tool life.
- Simulate and verify CNC programs to prevent collisions and machining errors.
- Support shop floor operations during program prove-out and first article machining.
- Optimize existing programs to improve cycle time, machining efficiency, and quality.
- Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and machine operators to resolve technical issues.
- Maintain proper documentation of CNC programs, tooling lists, and setup instructions.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and procedures (e.g., AS9100, ISO standards where applicable).
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma / Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- Certification or training in CAM programming is an advantage. Experience
- 4-7 years of experience in CNC programming or CAM programming in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machining is preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Strong understanding of CNC machining processes (milling, turning, drilling, tapping).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters.
- Experience with CNC controllers such as NX CAM (Preferred) or Heidenhain.
