Position Overview
AeroDef Structures is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Composite Designer with 3–5 years of experience in aerospace composite design. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in designing composite structures and components while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop innovative and manufacturable aerospace solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed composite part and assembly designs for aerospace applications.
- Create 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation using CAD software.
- Design composite laminates, ply definitions, stacking sequences, and associated manufacturing features.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including BOMs, drawing revisions, and design reports.
- Support design reviews, customer meetings, and technical discussions.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, aerospace standards, and internal design processes.
- Resolve engineering issues during prototype, manufacturing, and production phases.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design quality and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in composite design within the aerospace or defence industry.
- Strong understanding of composite materials, laminate construction, ply orientation, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with aerospace design standards and GD&T.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5 (Composite Design/CPD, Part Design, Assembly Design, Drafting).
- Familiarity with PLM tools such as ENOVIA or Teamcenter.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes including lay-up, curing, trimming, bonding, and assembly.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with Airbus, Boeing, or other aerospace OEM standards.
- Knowledge of metallic-composite interfaces and hybrid structures.
- Exposure to tooling design and manufacturing engineering.
- Familiarity with certification requirements and engineering change management.
- Experience in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
