About the role
Huru is looking for a Compliance Specialist – AML Operations to join its team in Delhi.
This is a hands-on player-coach role responsible for supporting Huru's AML operations and protecting the organisation from financial crime. You will personally manage complex investigations and escalations while also overseeing the quality, allocation and timely completion of work across the AML operations team.
The role is ideal for an experienced AML professional who is ready to take the next step towards team leadership, while continuing to remain hands-on with complex cases.
You will be expected to operate with minimal supervision, identify emerging risks and trends, coach and support analysts, maintain high quality standards, and ensure AML activities are completed in line with UAE AML/CFT/CPF requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Complex Investigations & Escalations
- Personally handle complex and sensitive AML investigations, including linked accounts, customer networks, potential sanctions true matches and terrorist financing concerns.
- Act as an escalation point for analysts across customer screening, transaction screening and transaction monitoring cases.
- Review recommendations relating to the release, blocking or rejection of payments and ensure decisions are consistent with applicable policies.
- Draft high-quality Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) for review by the DMLRO and ensure regulatory timelines are met.
- Escalate urgent or high-risk matters to the Manager/DMLRO with a clear investigation summary and recommended course of action.
- Ensure complex investigations are supported by appropriate evidence and clearly documented conclusions.
2. Quality Assurance & Review
- Conduct four-eyes quality checks across closed alerts and high-risk case dispositions.
- Review cases for accuracy, investigation quality, rationale and completeness of documentation.
- Review analysts draft STRs/SARs for evidence, clarity and timeliness before escalation to the Compliance Officer/MLRO.
- Review and sign off Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and periodic review outcomes for high-risk customers, including source of funds and source of wealth assessments.
- Ensure case documentation meets the standards expected by Compliance, Internal Audit and regulators.
- Identify recurring quality gaps and work with analysts to improve investigation standards.
3. Work Allocation & SLA Management
- Allocate alert queues, investigations, periodic reviews and ad-hoc requests across the team based on analyst experience, workload and capacity.
- Monitor alert volumes, ageing, backlogs and regulatory/internal SLAs on a daily basis.
- Rebalance workloads where necessary to ensure cases are completed within required timelines.
- Forecast workload against team capacity and highlight potential resourcing risks to the Manager/DMLRO.
- Ensure sanctions alerts, urgent transactions and STR/SAR deadlines are appropriately prioritised.
4. Team Leadership & Development
- Support the day-to-day management of the AML operations team, including daily huddles and regular check-ins.
- Coach and mentor analysts on investigation techniques, financial crime typologies, UAE AML/CFT/CPF requirements and report writing.
- Support onboarding and training of new team members.
- Monitor individual productivity and quality and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Contribute to performance discussions and reviews alongside the Manager/DMLRO.
- Deputise for the Manager when required and represent the team in relevant internal meetings.
5. Team Culture & Ways of Working

- Identify workload pressure or potential burnout and raise concerns proactively.

- Keep the team informed of changes in policies, procedures, priorities and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a communication bridge between the AML operations team and management.
6. MIS, Trends & Control Improvements
- Own daily, weekly and monthly AML operations MIS covering alert volumes, ageing, outcomes, STR/SAR status, periodic reviews, productivity and quality KPIs.
- Ensure MIS and reporting reconcile accurately with underlying source systems.
- Consolidate trends identified across investigations, including patterns by customer type, product, payment corridor or counterparty.
- Escalate material trends and emerging risks to the Head of Compliance & Risk with supporting analysis.
- Recommend improvements to monitoring rules, thresholds and procedures, including opportunities to reduce false positives.
- Maintain and improve AML operations procedures, desk guides and supporting documentation.
- Support the AML Manager and Compliance Head with policy updates, risk assessments, regulatory submissions, compliance projects and AML awareness training.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Law, Commerce, Economics, or a related discipline.
- 3–6 years of hands-on experience in AML, screening, transaction monitoring or financial crime operations within an international regulated financial institution.
- Experience within a CBUAE-licensed entity would be an advantage.
- Strong hands-on experience investigating AML alerts end-to-end and handling complex or escalated cases.
- Experience drafting and/or reviewing STRs/SARs and preparing AML MIS.
- Previous experience coaching, mentoring, reviewing the work of, or allocating work to junior analysts would be highly desirable.
- CAMS or another recognised AML/financial crime certification would be a strong advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of AML/CFT/CPF frameworks, concepts and processes.
- Good understanding of relevant Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) requirements and international standards, including FATF Recommendations.
- Strong investigation and analytical capabilities, with the ability to identify unusual transaction patterns and emerging financial crime risks.
- Strong understanding of customer screening, transaction screening, transaction monitoring, CDD/EDD and sanctions controls.
- Experience using AML/KYC platforms, screening systems, transaction monitoring tools and case-management systems.
- Strong Excel capabilities for analysis, reconciliation and management reporting.
- Excellent written English, with the ability to prepare and review clear, concise and defensible investigation summaries, STRs/SARs and reports.
- Strong organisational and workload-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and regulatory deadlines.
- Ability to coach others, provide constructive feedback and maintain high quality standards across a team.
