Role Overview
We are looking for a highly experienced Commvault Backup L3 Support Engineer to design, administer, troubleshoot, and optimize enterprise backup and recovery environments. This role demands deep hands-on expertise in Commvault architecture, advanced troubleshooting skills, and the ability to drive root-cause analysis, automation, and continuous service improvement in large-scale environments.
Key Responsibilities
Backup Administration & Operations
- Administer and manage enterprise Commvault infrastructure, including CommServe, Media Agents, Storage Policies, Schedules, and Indexing
- Perform daily health checks, job monitoring, capacity management, and remediation
- Manage backup and restore operations for servers, databases, VMs, endpoints, and cloud workloads
L3 Troubleshooting & RCA
- Provide advanced (L3) troubleshooting for backup failures, performance issues, and media agent bottlenecks
- Perform log analysis and root-cause investigations for recurring issues
- Handle escalations from L1/L2 teams and coordinate with Commvault OEM Support for complex cases
Platform Expertise
- Hands-on experience with Commvault features including:
- CommServe DR backup & recovery
- Deduplication & DDB maintenance
- Storage libraries (Tape, NAS, SAN, Cloud Storage)
- Virtualization backups (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Agent-based backups (Windows / Unix / Linux)
- Application & Database workloads: SQL, Oracle, SAP HANA, Exchange, O365, Active Directory, File Systems
Policy & Configuration Management
- Design and implement storage policies, schedules, retention policies, and SLA-driven configurations
- Manage synthetic full backups, auxiliary copies, and DDB pruning
- Ensure DR readiness of CommServe and Media Agents
Cloud & Modern Workloads
- Configure and troubleshoot Commvault backups for:
- AWS, Azure, GCP workloads
- Microsoft O365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams)
- Kubernetes environments (added advantage)
Performance Optimization
- Tune backup and restore performance for throughput and reliability
- Optimize disk pools, DDB usage, job concurrency, and network utilization
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare weekly/monthly reports, capacity forecasts, compliance metrics, and SLA dashboards
- Create and maintain SOPs, KB articles, and change documentation
Change, Patch & DR Management
- Plan and execute Commvault upgrades, hotfixes, service packs, and DR drills
- Participate in CAB processes for enhancements and configuration changes
Security & Compliance
- Implement and manage RBAC and access controls
- Ensure adherence to data protection standards, retention policies, and audit requirements
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in Commvault backup administration
- Strong expertise in enterprise backup, recovery, and DR architectures
- Proven experience handling large-scale, multi-platform backup environments
- Excellent troubleshooting, RCA, and documentation skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination abilities
Preferred Certifications
- Commvault Certified Professional / Engineer (CCP / CCE)
- ITIL Foundation(added advantage)
- Experience with enterprise-level data protection and DR strategies
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Master's degree or relevant certifications will be an added advantage
