Job Description

The Role

East Renfrewshire Learning Disability Team are seeking to recruit a committed, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our experienced team of health and social work professionals. The key functions of the role are:

To provide specialised clinical expertise, knowledge and skills in the promotion and maintenance of optimum health for adults with learning disabilities and complex health needs.

To operate as a practitioner within a learning disability team providing person centred health needs.

To improve knowledge and awareness of issues impacting on adults with learning disabilities, and appropriate action to support the people we work with.

The delivery of specialist clinical intervention and treatment to meet assessed health care needs.

Further develop liaison between community and specialist organisations (including acute, local authorities and voluntary organisations). To work in collaboration with the Clinical Team Leader and the Professional Nurse advisor to assist with strategic aims, research and development of the community learning disability service and nurse education within the speciality.

Be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of quality assurance systems within a Clinical Governance framework.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

This is a permanent post of 37 hours per week.

The shift pattern for this post is 9am-5pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Have continuing overall responsibility for the management of own caseload within a specified geographical area.
  • Be responsible for the specialist clinical nursing assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of care programmes for individuals with complex physical and/or mental health needs within a dynamic joint future service. Providing person centred health care.
  • Provide clinical knowledge and skills in promoting and maintenance of optimum health for adults with learning disabilities with co-morbidity.
  • To work in partnership with clients, carers and other care providers, promoting the principles of social inclusion.
  • Participate in the delivery of a local health screening programme for adults with learning disabilities, utilising the C21st screening tool.
  • Ensure, where applicable, Section 47 of the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 is implemented, with in date, certificates of Incapacity issued.
  • Ensuring the provision of the highest quality of nursing care by participating in the continuing development of research based nursing practice. Select and implement evidence nursing interventions to meet individual needs of people utilising national guidance and standards, such as, Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines.
  • Work within the principles of a clinical governance framework; contribute to the achievement of high quality person centred care by the development and implementation of standards of care.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Register Nurse 1st level RNLD or equivalent.

Professional/clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree level.

One year post registration experience working in community settings or equivalent knowledge base. Evidence of post registration educational development. Flexibility and adaptability in responding to service needs in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment. Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of current law and policy trends in learning disability and community care, including awareness of national and local policies, procedures and working practice. Excellent training and presentation skills. Viewing people with learning disabilities as equal citizens. A full GB driving licence.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
