Life at The Washing Machine Project — meaningful work. Exceptional people.
Handwashing clothes may sound like a simple task, but it poses a significant obstacle to the wellbeing and livelihood of many women worldwide. We recognise that unpaid labour is compromising lives. This needs to change.
We're The Washing Machine Project (TWMP). Our mission is to empower women to take charge of their lives by providing displaced and low-income communities with accessible, off-grid washing solutions.
Our values guide our daily behaviour:
- We start with people.
- We innovate for good.
- We build to last.
The purpose of the role
The Communications & Outreach Executive will support TWMP's visibility, external engagement and pipeline development in India and internationally.
This is a varied, delivery-focused role combining communications, outreach, lead generation, partnership marketing and profile-building. You will help TWMP identify and engage prospective NGOs, government bodies, CSR teams, institutional buyers, distributors, media contacts and other mission-aligned organisations.
Working closely with the CEO, Brand & Communications Manager, Marketing Team and Partnerships colleagues, you will translate TWMP's programmes, impact and value proposition into clear external messaging, targeted outreach and timely follow-up.
This role will help build awareness, generate qualified conversations, strengthen external relationships and support procurement and partnership opportunities.
Who we are looking for
You are a proactive, organised and mission-led communications and outreach professional who enjoys making things happen.
You bring strong writing skills, a commercially minded approach to lead generation and the confidence to communicate professionally with a range of external stakeholders. You are comfortable researching prospects, creating tailored messages, managing trackers and following up with care and consistency.
You will be energised by working across marketing, communications, partnerships, media and outreach in a growing impact-led organisation.
Your duties and responsibilities include
Lead generation and market outreach
- Research and identify prospective NGOs, government bodies, institutional buyers, distributors, CSR teams and other mission-aligned organisations.
- Build and maintain prospect lists and segmented outreach databases.
- Conduct targeted outbound outreach by email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and other agreed channels.
- Support lead generation for procurement-led sales and partnership opportunities.
- Track outreach activity, responses, follow-ups, next steps and pipeline stage.
- Surface relevant tenders, procurement opportunities, grant-linked opportunities and partnership openings.
- Help qualify inbound and outbound opportunities against agreed criteria.
Procurement and partnership pipeline support
- Support early-stage relationship-building with NGOs, government contacts, CSR teams and institutional stakeholders.
- Prepare tailored introductory materials, follow-up messages and briefing notes.
- Coordinate timely follow-up on partnership and sales opportunities.
- Support proposals, expressions of interest, capability decks and other materials.
- Maintain accurate records of prospects, opportunities, partner status, decision points, follow-up actions and outcomes.
Marketing and campaign support
- Support campaigns that build awareness, generate qualified leads and strengthen TWMP's profile.
- Create and adapt messaging and content for outreach campaigns, partner communications, announcements and marketing materials.
- Assist with case studies, campaign assets, announcements and joint communications with partners.
- Ensure external messaging is audience-appropriate, consistent and aligned with TWMP's brand, mission and values.
External communications and outreach
- Draft high-quality external emails, WhatsApp messages and other correspondence for the team and senior staff.
- Tailor messaging for NGOs, government stakeholders, corporates, media contacts and other external partners.
- Maintain accurate contact records and ensure follow-ups are timely, professional and well coordinated.
Speaking, events, media and PR
- Research relevant conferences, panels, awards and sector events.
- Coordinate submissions, deadlines and internal approvals.
- Draft speaker bios, session descriptions, abstracts and related materials for review.
- Support logistics, briefing preparation and post-event follow-up.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets and sector contacts, with a particular focus on India.
- Draft press releases, media pitches, quotes and briefing notes for review.
- Manage and update TWMP's media page and related external profile materials.
Coordination, tracking and reporting
- Keep trackers and CRM-style records up to date across media, campaigns, outreach activity, pipeline stage, follow-up actions, speaking engagements and partnership opportunities.
- Provide bi-weekly reports on lead generation, including active dialogue and conversion rates.
- Monitor sector developments, procurement activity, partnership trends and relevant external opportunities.
Essential requirements
- 2+ years experience in marketing, communications, partnerships, business development support, lead generation, PR or a related role.
- Strong copywriting and editing skills for outreach, partner communications, marketing materials and external messaging.
- A commercially minded approach to marketing, with a track record of meeting or exceeding lead generation targets.
- Proven ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
- Specific knowledge of the Indian media landscape and experience pitching to regional outlets.
- Experience researching prospects, maintaining contact lists and managing structured follow-up activity.
- Experience supporting outbound outreach, lead generation, partnership development or stakeholder engagement.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage trackers, multiple workstreams and competing priorities with minimal supervision.

- Understanding of reputational risk, confidentiality and ethical storytelling/informed consent in communications.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to collaborate across UK-India time zones.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and basic spreadsheet/database tools, such as Airtable or CRM-style trackers.
