The Opportunity
The role of Commercial Contract Specialist is to ensure strong commercial and contract governance across the PGSV Business Unit Hub MEA. Overall Responsible for End-to-End life Cycle of Contract Risk Management in alignment with the BU Risk Management Process across the Service BU MEA HUB. This includes involvement from tendering to the final execution, keeping to internal standard procedures and current market trends. The Commercial Contract Specialise will support the Tendering and Operations teams in maintaining commercial compliance and adherence to the upstream and downstream obligations for operations.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Review and support M&S Team in reviewing, commenting, preparation and negotiation of commercial contracts for both external and internal parties and participate in Risk Review to support local tendering unit in PGSV.
- Support and guide the Projects Execution team to enforce and defend Hitachi Energy's contractual interests during the project life cycle, including monitoring and assessment of changes and deviations, as well as defending and enforcing claims, support in presenting contract information to internal and external stakeholders in an effective and clear manner.
- Liaise and escalate to legal as required to ensure legal risks are managed for the contract. Build and maintain relationships with vendors, customers and other business connections during the negotiation and contract execution process.
- Identify the contract baseline (including terms and conditions, specifications, drawings, estimate, proposal, schedule, safety, quality, environment and other documents incorporated in the contract) and highlight areas of potential risk.
- Assess the success of the contract and determine if there are any lessons learned for future contracting. Document and communicate to all appropriate parties any deficiencies found as part of the closeout process. Establish and enforce standard change methodologies in portfolio of contracts to identify changes and quantify the additional time and compensation due to Hitachi Energy under the contract, define approval requirements and communicate changes to the customer.
- In concert with Legal, develops the negotiation strategy and supports negotiations. Supports Legal handling formal dispute resolution, litigation and arbitration. Notifies and liaises with Legal to report major claims and keeps Legal updated of any critical development during project execution.
- Build up and deploy ERM, Risk Review and Project Risk management processes and tools for early identification and mitigation and risk, provide support during the Risk Review process for BU including managing risk and opportunities and Risk Assessments and mitigation thereof. Take the lead to brief on contract terms & conditions to project execution team at project handover stage, participate in project reviews to verify risk allocation done in tendering stage and collect lesson learnt for risk review analysis.
- Seek advice from the legal function to draft, negotiate and finalize agreements during the sales and project execution phases, use internal processes and systems to undertake risk management assessments. Training and certification for Risk Review/Project Review process in collaboration with AU legal, HUB and functions and sharing on best practices by building up knowledge database.
- You will be responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
- B.E in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with Qualifications in Project Management / Commercial or Contract Management is preferred.
- 10+ years in contract management or commercial management role (or similar).
- Knowledge of the service industry in power utility, construction and/or mining, oil and gas, infrastructure industries as well as demonstrated commercial acumen within a contractor environment is essential. Knowledge of local contracting principles and standards (such as GCC Standards).
- Contract drafting skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated commercial acumen.
- Effective negotiation skills to secure terms that are beneficial for the organization and protect the interests of the business, while building lasting relationships with customers, other functions and supply chain.
- Individual contributor using in-depth knowledge in a specific area to execute complex or specialized projects / challenges often thinking independently to challenge traditional solutions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines in the organization. Works independently, applying established standards and complying with company guidelines and contracting principles.
- A proactive team player, ready to perform the role with a high level of ownership, strong cultural awareness and willingness to work across different time zones. Conflict resolution.
- Proficient in English speaker with excellent communication and relationship management skills.
