Role Overview
The College Essay Specialist will play a central role in one of the most personal and high-stakes parts of the university application process - the essays.
This is a role that combines deep listening, thoughtful writing, and editorial precision to help students articulate their stories in a way that is authentic, compelling, and aligned with the expectations of the world's most selective institutions. The position is designed for someone who is equally comfortable working with a student's raw, unstructured thoughts and producing polished, well-structured essays that reflect who that student truly is.
Key Responsibilities
Essay Writing and Editorial Support
- Ideate, edit, and write Statements of Purpose, Personal Statements, College Essays, and Scholarship Essays for students applying to top-tier universities, including Ivy League, Oxbridge, and other globally recognised institutions.
- Collaborate closely with students and counsellors to research and understand each student's academic background, career goals, and achievements - and translate that into a cohesive, compelling narrative.
- Ensure all content is original, plagiarism-free, clearly structured, and persuasive, meeting the expectations of top global universities.
- Adapt writing style and tone to suit country-specific admissions requirements across the US, UK, Canada, and Europe.
- Revise and refine drafts through multiple rounds of feedback while maintaining narrative consistency and quality throughout.
Process and Standards
- Familiarise yourself with application platforms and prompts, including Common App, UCAS, and university-specific portals.
- Stay updated with evolving admissions trends, essay prompts, and expectations across key university destinations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold the highest ethical standards in all student work.
- Manage multiple student timelines simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising on quality.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong command of written English - grammar, tone, flow, and clarity
- Proven experience in SOP writing, admissions writing, academic writing, or long-form narrative writing
- Ability to elicit authentic student voices from interviews and unstructured inputs and shape them into well-crafted personal stories
- Close attention to detail with strong self-editing and proofreading skills
- Understanding of global higher education admissions, particularly US Ivy League and UK Oxbridge standards
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and student engagements simultaneously
