Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Own L3 operations and engineering for Cohesity-based backup, restore, archive, and disaster recovery services in a hybrid (on-prem + cloud) environment.
  • Design, deploy, configure, and upgrade Cohesity clusters and related integrations (hypervisors, databases, NAS, cloud targets, directory services, monitoring, ticketing).
  • Drive backup policy design aligned to RPO/RTO, application criticality, retention, legal hold, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform and lead complex restores (VM, file-level, application/item-level where applicable) and conduct periodic restore validation and DR drills.
  • Troubleshoot complex incidents: failed jobs, performance bottlenecks, snapshot/agent issues, network/DNS/time sync, storage constraints, and integration errors; provide root-cause analysis (RCA) and preventive actions.
  • Manage replication and cloud archival / cloud tiering (as applicable), including bandwidth optimization and cost-aware retention strategies.
  • Implement security best practices: role-based access control (RBAC), MFA/SSO integrations (where used), immutability/ransomware protection features, and audit readiness.
  • Plan and execute platform lifecycle activities: capacity planning, hardware refresh, node expansion, patching, and version upgrades with rollback plans.
  • Automate and standardize operations using APIs, scripts, and runbooks; improve monitoring/alerting and service reliability.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to onboard workloads and ensure backup coverage for new projects.
  • Mentor L1/L2 engineers, provide technical leadership, review changes, and contribute to knowledge base documentation.

Primary Skill Requirements (Cohesity Backup & Recovery)

  • Strong hands-on experience administering Cohesity DataProtect / Cohesity Data Cloud backup and recovery in enterprise environments.
  • Experience with Cohesity cluster architecture, scaling (node add/expansion), software upgrades, and operational health monitoring.
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing protection sources and policies for common platforms such as VMware vSphere / Hyper-V, NAS shares, and physical/virtual servers.
  • Hands-on experience implementing replication, archival, and/or cloud-based targets (e.g., object storage) to support long-term retention and DR strategies.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across Cohesity components (connectors, proxies/agents if applicable, indexing/search, reporting, and job scheduling).
  • Experience with Cohesity reporting, audit/compliance requirements, and operational dashboards (and exporting evidence for audits).
  • Working knowledge of Cohesity REST APIs and/or automation (PowerShell/Python) is highly desirable.

Secondary / Cluster Skills

Cloud – AWS Administration

  • Understanding of AWS core services: IAM, VPC, EC2, S3, KMS, CloudWatch, and security controls.
  • Experience configuring secure connectivity (VPN/Direct Connect/peering as applicable) and access for backup targets (e.g., S3/object storage) and encryption using KMS.

Ability to troubleshoot cloud permission, networking, and performance issues affecting backup/restore operations.
