Role Overview

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Coffee Roaster to lead and operate our in-house roastery at Coffee Culture, Unseen Assagao. This role is central to building a coffee-forward experience, where roasting is not just production—but performance, education, and storytelling.

You will be responsible for roasting, profiling, sourcing, quality control, and guest interaction, helping us create one of India's most immersive coffee destinations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Roasting & Production

• Roast coffee beans across multiple origins (Indian & international)

• Develop and maintain roast profiles for:

• Espresso

• Filter (pour-over, siphon, etc.)

• Cold brew & nitro

• Ensure consistency in batch quality and flavor

• Maintain roasting logs, data tracking, and inventory

2. Coffee Program Development

• Curate and rotate single-origin and signature blends

• Work on seasonal coffees and limited editions

• Develop coffee menu integration across café, omakase & bar

• Align with menu offerings like espresso, manual brews, and cold programs

3. Omakase & Experience Leadership

• Lead coffee omakase experiences & tastings

• Conduct:

• Cupping sessions

• Coffee storytelling journeys

• Brew demonstrations

• Be the face of the roastery experience for guests

• Support curated formats like tasting sessions and workshops

4. Quality Control & Training

• Maintain strict QC standards for:

• Roast consistency

• Extraction quality

• Beverage output

• Train baristas on:

• Coffee origins & flavor profiles

• Brewing techniques

• Guest conversations

• Build a knowledge-first coffee culture on the floor

5. Sourcing & Green Coffee Management

• Work with suppliers to source high-quality beans

• Manage:

• Green bean inventory

• Storage conditions

• Freshness cycles

• Explore direct trade / Indian estate relationships

6. Retail & Product Development

• Develop and oversee:

• Retail coffee beans

• Drip bags / easy brew formats

• Support packaging, labeling, and storytelling

• Build a strong B2C + B2B coffee identity

7. Equipment & Roastery Operations

• Operate and maintain roasting equipment

• Manage:

• Roaster calibration

• Maintenance schedules

• Safety protocols

• Ensure cleanliness and efficiency of roastery space

8. Brand & Guest Experience

• Engage with guests on the floor:

• Talk about beans, origins, and brewing

• Create memorable coffee conversations

• Align with Unseen's philosophy of:

• Slow living

• Sensory experience

• Thoughtful hospitality

Key Skills & Requirements

• 2–5+ years experience in coffee roasting

• Strong understanding of:

• Roast curves & profiling

• Extraction science

• Brewing methods (V60, Siphon, Espresso, etc.)

• Experience with cupping & sensory evaluation

• Passion for storytelling & guest interaction

• Ability to train and lead a team

• SCA certification (preferred, not mandatory)
