Cobol Programmer

Role Overview: We are seeking an AS400 and Unisys Mainframe Developer to design, develop, and maintain mission-critical financial applications. You will collaborate with Product Owners, Solution Architects, Client Services, and Scrum teams to deliver high-quality solutions using best practice technologies and tools for both new enhancements and production issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

· Design, develop, and maintain applications on AS400 and Unisys A-Series mainframe platforms

· Work on end-to-end feature development and resolve medium to high severity production defects

· Collaborate with front-end development teams to understand requirements and build integrated solutions

· Write, review, analyze, code, test, and debug application programs

· Ensure applications meet performance, reliability, and security standards

· Participate in daily/weekly stand-ups, sprint planning, code reviews, and product demos

· Adhere to platform architecture, coding standards, and development best practices

· Complete assigned development and testing within sprint timelines with high quality

· Create and maintain technical documentation including design specs and test plans

· Provide production support and perform error diagnostic/debugging activities

MANDATORY SKILLS:

· hands-on experience with AS400 Mainframe development using:

o COBOL/400

o CL (Control Language)

o IBM i (iSeries) platform

· hands-on experience with Unisys A-Series Mainframe using:

o COBOL

o WFL (Work Flow Language)

o DMS 2200/RDMS database

· Experience developing secure mainframe-based applications

· Strong understanding of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile methodologies

· Proficiency in reviewing, analyzing, coding, testing, and debugging application programs

· Experience with source control systems (Endevor or similar)

· Good communication skills and experience working with clients

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience

GOOD TO HAVE SKILLS:

· Banking domain knowledge (payments, authorizations, clearing & settlement)

· Testing experience in mainframe environments with understanding of:

o Software Test Life Cycle (STLC)

o Test strategy and test planning

o Test case design and test data setup

o Defect management

· Experience with Unisys ECL (Executive Control Language) and TIP

· Experience with DB2, JCL, CICS, VSAM in mainframe environments

· Knowledge of Unisys OS 2200 or ClearPath systems

· Experience with high-volume transaction processing

· Familiarity with monitoring tools (SYSVIEW, Splunk)

· Experience with batch and online processing

· Knowledge of financial services applications (student loans, credit cards, ACH processing)

· Experience working with remote and offshore development teams

· Understanding of CI/CD practices in mainframe environments
