Job description
We are seeking a skilled COBOL IDMS Application Analyst and Data Migration Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of COBOL and IDMS, as well as extensive experience in analyzing legacy systems and designing migration strategies. Candiate will be responsible for assessing existing applications, structuring data for migration to COBOL IDMS, and designing a robust data migration strategy for transitioning from legacy Objectstar RDBMS to IDMS databases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and document the functionality, processes, and data structures of existing COBOL DB2/IDMS applications.
- Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather and understand system requirements, workflows, and dependencies.
- Design and structure data models for migrating COBOL applications from DB2/IDMS to target database, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
- Develop a comprehensive data migration strategy to transfer data from DB2/IDMS to target database, including data mapping, transformation rules, and validation.
- Work closely with development, QA, and operations teams to ensure smooth migration of applications and data.
- Perform testing and validation of the migrated data, resolving discrepancies and ensuring system functionality post-migration.
- Identify potential risks and challenges related to data migration and develop contingency plans.
- Provide documentation and technical support throughout the migration process, ensuring best practices and standards are followed.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues that may arise during or after the migration process.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong experience with COBOL programming language and CICS BMS.
- In-depth knowledge of DB2 and IDMS databases.
- Proven expertise in analyzing and documenting legacy COBOL DB2 applications.
- Experience in data migration strategies, particularly to IDMS.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, data mapping, and ETL processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with modernization and migration of legacy systems.
- Knowledge of COBOL, DB2, IDMS and CICS BMS.
