Job Description

Charles River Development is looking for an experienced Cloud Platform Engineer who will work on the Engineering, architecture, and design of our SaaS Cloud platform. In this role you will interface with engineering teams, product management, business units, and customers to define and deliver robust, scalable, and agile architectures in support of the rapidly growing product capabilities. You will lead teams to plan, design, build and participate in deploying enterprise Microsoft technology infrastructures in the Azure Public Cloud. This role focuses on the architecture of the foundational cloud infrastructure, shared services, and DevOps processes and tooling that will underpin the next generation platform. This includes storage, compute, networking, and services deployed across the globe and with a strong, forward-looking security architecture for a growing range of compliance standards.

Job Responsibilities -

  • Responsible for Cloud Platform Engineering for a technical domain or initiative, working with multiple scrum teams, engineering managers, and architects to deliver a well-architected, principled technology platform.

  • Deep knowledge and hands on implementation experience on Azure Infrastructure and networking.

  • Hands on scripting with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform

  • To provide cloud engineering support for build, migration, and operation of Azure cloud infrastructure

  • Research and evaluate emerging cloud technologies and proactively recommend areas where they can bring business value.

  • Develop aspects of the cloud migration initiative, including its impact on infrastructure, networks, and security.

  • Define standards and best practices by conducting POCs for new cloud technologies leveraged by the development organization and engineering teams

  • Provide expertise and serve as Subject Matter Expert regarding Cloud for both infrastructure and applications in Microsoft Azure

  • Hands on experience designing and engineering Azure services

  • Design and deploy enterprise-scale solutions.

  • Keeping Azure enterprise level projects that design and deploy cloud environments for hosting business application services in scope , you lead designing, testing, and implementing application services migrations in both a manual and AI manner

  • Perform technology investigations to develop and maintain the knowledge base of current leading edge and developing technologies with the goal of using the knowledge to identify emerging business opportunities and in support of existing business programs.

  • Be the liaison with project teams on cloud technologies and solutions

  • Expected to learn new technologies and continue to expand expertise

  • Participates in Innovation activities by commenting and generating ideas and leading a team which can be multisite.

  • Become a go to person for Cloud Engineering. Should have a basic understanding of IaaS and PaaS services offered on cloud platforms and understand how to use them together to build complex solutions.

  • Ensure that all cloud solutions follow security and compliance controls.

  • Participate in the establishment on an automated DevOps release management pipeline which delivers tooling for next generation application development efforts and on-going production operations. Cultivate a Continuous Integration/ContinuousDelivery mind set.

  • Provide thought leadership on cloud platform technology use, design, and implementation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field required, master's preferred

  • Azure Cloud Platform Certification preferred

  • Five years of cloud deployment experience, with at least 2 years in Azure

  • 1. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Proficiency
    Modern onboarding focuses on modular, reusable code to manage environment sprawl and ensure consistency.

Modular Architecture: Ability to break down complex infrastructure into independent, reusable modules (e.g., separate modules for networking, compute, and storage).
Tool-Specific Syntax: Deep knowledge of Terraform (HCL), Terragrunt, Azure ADO pipelines, shell scripting, and python scripting.
State Management: Understanding how to track resource states and manage Terraform state files to prevent configuration drift.

  • 2. Kubernetes (AKS) & Container Orchestration
    Onboarding into Kubernetes environments requires moving beyond basic containerization to managing complex cluster lifecycles.

  • Cluster Administration: Proficiency in deploying and managing service/application on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) cluster, including worker node scaling and capacity planning.
    Advanced Networking: Knowledge of Kubernetes networking models, including Pod-to-Pod communication, Ingress controllers, and Azure CNI for virtual network integration.
    Workload Management: Experience in using ArgoCD and GitOPS process for deploying multi-module applications and managing resource quotas per namespace.

3. Azure Ecosystem & Multi-Environment Management
A technical Engineer must navigate the broader Azure platform to support various application modules.

  • Resource Governance: Minimum azure fundamentals is mandatory to provide support provisioning required azure resources for application onboarding.
    Multi-Environment Management: Familiarity with handling the service deployment across multiple environment and regions.
    Config Drift Management: Experience in Handling the config drift and retofit new service features to the existing environment.
    CI/CD Pipeline Automation: Building automated deployment tracks in Azure Pipelines for onbaording new resources.
    Secrets Management: Securely handling API keys and credentials using Azure Key Vault within IaC scripts and Kubernetes secrets.
    Secrets Lifecycle Management: Familiarity with managing the lifecycle of the Account/credentials on multiple systems(i.e AAD,LDAP,Certs,keys) and reflect the changes to all associated services.

4. Foundational & Soft Skills
Troubleshooting & Monitoring: Using Azure Monitor and Prometheus/Grafana to identify performance bottlenecks across pods and cloud resources.
Version Control Best Practices: Mastery of Git for trunk-based development and pull request reviews to maintain infrastructure code quality.
Architectural Documentation: Ability to maintain thorough documentation to reduce knowledge silos during team onboarding.
