Summary:
As a Cloud Platform Engineer, your day involves designing, building, testing, and deploying cloud application solutions that seamlessly integrate both cloud-based and traditional infrastructure. You will work on deploying infrastructure and platform environments, developing proofs of architecture to evaluate the feasibility, security, and performance of proposed solutions. Your role requires continuous collaboration with various teams to ensure that cloud solutions meet organizational needs and operate efficiently within the broader technology ecosystem.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Architect, deploy, and manage Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana (ELK) clusters on AWS.
Design Kibana dashboards, visualisations, alerting rules, and index lifecycle policies.
Integrate application, infrastructure, and security log sources into the centralised observability platform.
Implement APM, distributed tracing, and synthetic monitoring using Elastic APM or equivalent tools.
Administer and configure Dynatrace, Datadog, or Grafana for infrastructure and application performance monitoring.
Define alerting, SLOs, and observability standards across the organisation.
Evaluate and onboard new monitoring and logging tools based on organisational needs.
Collaborate with DevOps, security, and application teams to ensure end-to-end observability coverage.
Perform capacity planning, tuning, and optimisation of observability infrastructure.
Produce runbooks, dashboards, and documentation for the observability platform.
Lead and mentor a team of observability engineers, set technical direction, and manage stakeholder relationships.
Professional & Technical Skills:
Expert-level hands-on experience with the ELK stack: Elasticsearch (cluster management, index tuning, ILM), Logstash (pipeline configuration), Kibana (dashboards, alerting).
Experience with Beats agents (Filebeat, Metricbeat, Packetbeat) for log and metric collection.
Hands-on experience with at least one additional observability platform: Dynatrace, Datadog, Grafana/Prometheus, or New Relic.
Proficiency in deploying ELK on AWS (EC2, EKS, or Elastic Cloud on AWS).
Knowledge of log ingestion patterns, data normalisation, and SIEM-adjacent use cases.
Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar for automation and custom integrations.
Excellent troubleshooting and performance tuning skills across distributed systems
