Position Overview

The Cloud Engineer role is responsible for the build, deployment, migration, and ongoing management of cloud platform and customer environments. This role aligns to our managed services delivery team and ensures that all customer solutions are

implemented and managed to the highest standards of reliability, performance, and security.

Working closely with sales, project delivery, network and managed services teams, this role delivers scalable, automated, and supportable cloud solutions that underpin Continent 8's managed services offerings.

Key Responsibilities

Build & Deployment

Design, build, and deploy virtualized and cloud environments using enterprise grade platforms such as VMware, Nutanix, & open solutions such as OpenStack and public cloud environments like Nutanix or Open Stack

Configure underlying infrastructure including compute, storage, and networking.

Support infrastructure automation through scripting and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or PowerShell.

Ensure all builds meet compliance, resilience, and performance requirements before handover to operations.

Maintain documentation of build standards, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.

Cloud Migration Projects

Plan and execute migration of workloads, virtual machines, and applications between on-premises, hosted, and public cloud environments.

Collaborate with project management and customer engineering teams to develop migration strategies, timelines, and risk mitigation plans.

Conduct pre-migration readiness assessments and post-migration validation to ensure stability and performance.

Optimize migrated workloads for cost, scalability, and high availability.

Provide technical input into migration tooling, methodologies, and best practices.

Managed Services

Provide proactive support for managed cloud customer environments, including proactive monitoring, maintenance, and performance tuning.

Participate in the lifecycle management of cloud resources—patching, updates, compliance, and capacity management.

Work with the FinOps and Network teams to monitor and optimize hybrid cloud cost and usage.

Support customer service delivery by responding to escalations, incidents, and service requests in accordance with managed services contracts and SLAs.

Contribute to service improvement initiatives that enhance uptime, automation, and platform resilience.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Partner with cross-functional teams including DC & Network Operations, Sales, Solutions, Security, and FinOps/ BA.

Recommend architecture or process improvements based on operational experience and technology advancements.

Participate in proof-of-concept testing, new product evaluation, and onboarding of new cloud technologies.

Document lessons learned and incorporated feedback.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

10+years of experience in cloud development, infrastructure build, and managed services within an MSP, or enterprise environment.

Proven experience delivering cloud infrastructure build and migration projects across VMware, Nutanix, AWS, or Azure platforms.

Strong background in Linux and/or Windows server administration, networking, and storage technologies.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in automation and orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Bash).

Experience with virtualization and hyperconverged platforms (VMware, Nutanix, Hyper-V).

Strong understanding of hybrid cloud and network integration principles (VLANs, VPNs, BGP, firewalls).

Familiarity with cloud monitoring, logging, and backup solutions for managed environments.

Ability to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments.
