Cloud Database Consultant - Oracle & MS SQL

Role Overview Database Consultant (MS SQL & Oracle on Cloud)

The Database Consultant will engage with customers to design, architect, and deliver end-to-end MS SQL and Oracle database solutions on the cloud. This role involves leading client workshops, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and delivering consulting services across architecture design, migrations, upgrades, performance tuning, and disaster recovery implementations, primarily on AWS.

Key Responsibilities

Client Engagement & Consulting

• Engage with clients to understand business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable database solutions.
• Lead customer workshops to gather requirements, define solutions, and design database architectures for MS SQL and Oracle on cloud.
• Coordinate with multiple stakeholders across client hierarchies, including DBAs, developers, architects, and infrastructure teams.
• Deliver consulting services through workshops, solution design, architecture reviews, migrations, upgrades, performance tuning, and DR engagements.
• Enforce contractual SLAs through effective database design, administration, and optimization.

Database Architecture & Cloud Implementation

• Design holistic MS SQL and Oracle database solutions on one or more public cloud platforms, primarily AWS.
• Plan, design, implement, and maintain database environments on AWS services such as EC2, RDS, and S3.
• Define and implement High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), replication, failover, and monitoring strategies.
• Develop secure, scalable, and high-performance database architectures aligned with best practices.

Database Administration & Operations

• Hands-on expertise in:
• Installation and configuration
• Schema management
• User and security management
• Backup and restore operations
• Creating and managing MS SQL and Oracle databases
• Perform architect-level server security configuration and monitoring.
• Plan and implement backup and recovery strategies using scripting and automation.
• Monitor and tune database performance; analyze and resolve complex performance issues.
• Develop and optimize database structures to ensure data integrity, security, and performance.

Performance, Security & Integration

• Expert in database performance analysis, tuning, and optimization.
• Strong knowledge of database security best practices and compliance.
• Experience integrating databases with third-party monitoring tools.
• Experience with JDBC connection pools and database integrations.
• Knowledge of Linux and Windows system administration (preferred).
• Familiarity with virtualization and container technologies such as AWS EC2 and Docker (plus).

Core Requirements & Migration Expertise (Must-Have)

• Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS RDS and cloud-native database services.
• Proven experience in database migration projects, including assessment, planning, execution, and cutover.
• Demonstrated ability to migrate database workloads across engines such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
• Hands-on experience migrating databases to:
• AWS RDS
• Native EC2-based database deployments
• Deep understanding of High Availability (HA) and Replication architectures, including:
• Engine-specific HA and replication mechanisms
• Supported and unsupported HA/replication features across different database engines on AWS
• Strong expertise as a Multi-Database Migration Specialist, capable of handling complex cross-platform migrations.

Expertise Required

• Deep experience in database migrations across MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.
• Skilled in:
• Migration assessments
• Planning and design
• Customer workshops
• Cutover and post-migration validation
• Proven track record in cross-platform migrations and cloud database transitions, including:
• AWS RDS
• Azure SQL
• Google Cloud SQL
• Strong scripting capabilities for migration, automation, and validation.
• Expertise in data validation, reconciliation, and post-migration performance tuning.
