Job Description
Innovation Hub Overview
Jefferies is creating a Technology Innovation Hub in Pune, a greenfield opportunity to build the systems that power global markets. As our first India technology center, this hub brings together hands on builders who engineer the platforms behind Jefferies growth across capital markets, investment banking, and institutional securities. We're scaling toward an elite team of 500 engineers while maintaining the agility, ownership, and meritocratic spirit that defines Jefferies. From cloud and data to AI, risk, and core business technologies, teams in Pune will lead high impact work with a global mandate.
IT Infrastructure Technology
Jefferies IT Infrastructure Technology team builds and runs the core technology backbone that enables the firm to operate globally. It covers enterprise infrastructure engineering and operations while driving modernization initiatives such as Cloud Adoption and Network Resiliency. The group supports critical platforms including networking, end-user computing, cloud, databases, server/Unix engineering, communications, and global data centers (including low-latency colocations near exchanges).
Key Functions
- Networking / Telecom / Multimedia Engineering
- Windows / Desktop / Messaging Engineering.
- Private / Public Cloud / Database / Unix Engineering.
- Data Centers.
Role Summary
Drive cloud financial accountability, cost optimization, and governance excellence across our multi-cloud infrastructure. You will build tooling and processes to track, forecast, and optimize cloud spend, establish governance guardrails, and partner with engineering and business teams to ensure cost-efficient, compliant cloud operations. This role blends financial analysis, technical engineering, automation, and policy enforcement to deliver measurable cost savings while maintaining security and operational standards.
You will collaborate closely with Platform Engineering, Cloud Security, Finance, and business line leaders across all divisions. Strong interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to balance cost optimization with business needs are essential. You will serve as a trusted advisor to engineering teams, helping them understand and manage their cloud spending.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement cloud cost management and optimization frameworks across AWS, Azure, and future cloud providers; embed FinOps principles into engineering workflows
- Build and maintain cost visibility dashboards, chargeback/showback models, and forecasting tools using cloud-native services (AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management) and third-party platforms
- Automate cost anomaly detection and alerting; develop remediation workflows (e.g., right-sizing, reserved instance/savings plan recommendations, unused resource cleanup)
- Establish cloud governance standards and guardrails using Terraform Enterprise policies, AWS Service Control Policies (SCPs), Azure Policy, and infrastructure tagging strategies
- Define cost-aware design patterns; review architectures for cost optimization opportunities
- Develop and enforce tagging policies, resource lifecycle management, and cloud resource accountability frameworks; drive adoption across all teams
- Conduct regular cloud spend reviews with stakeholders; identify trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities; deliver actionable recommendations
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for governance automation: policy-as-code, compliance checks, and cost controls
- Build self-service tooling and automation (using AI agents where appropriate) to enable teams to manage their own cloud costs and compliance
- Drive compliance efforts related to cloud governance, security policies, and audit readiness; ensure adherence to regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with Finance and business line leaders to align cloud spending with budgets and business objectives
- Educate engineering teams on cloud cost best practices; conduct training and knowledge-sharing sessions
- Proficiency using GenAI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot) for data analysis, report generation, policy drafting, and automation scripting
- Ability to implement AI agent-driven automation (agentic workflows) for cost optimization tasks (e.g., auto-remediation, anomaly response, recommendation delivery) with enterprise safety controls: human-in-the-loop approvals, comprehensive logging and auditability, guardrails to prevent unintended changes, rollback mechanisms, and secure credential management
- Proactive approach to identifying cost-related toil; ship automation that measurably reduces manual cost management work and delivers quantifiable savings
- Establish and monitor cost and governance SLOs; report on metrics to leadership regularly
- Participate in architecture reviews to provide cost and governance input
- Support audit and compliance activities; maintain documentation of governance policies and controls
- Create runbooks and training materials for cost management and governance best practices
- Drive continuous improvement: identify inefficiencies, implement solutions, and measure outcomes
Requirements
- 7+ years in cloud engineering, FinOps, DevOps, or infrastructure roles with 3+ years focused on cloud cost optimization and governance
- Strong AWS experience; familiarity with Azure cost management is a plus; AWS Solutions Architect or equivalent certification preferred
- Deep understanding of cloud pricing models, reserved instances, savings plans, spot instances, and cost optimization strategies
- Proficiency with Terraform and Terraform Enterprise (policies, workspaces, guardrails); experience implementing policy-as-code
- Strong scripting skills in Python or Go for automation, data analysis, and tooling development
- Experience with cloud governance frameworks, tagging strategies, and compliance requirements
- Familiarity with cloud cost management tools (CloudHealth, Cloudability, Apptio, native cloud tools)
- Strong data analysis skills; ability to create dashboards and reports (Tableau, PowerBI, or similar)
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to influence engineering and business leaders on cost discipline
- Experience working in Agile environments using Jira and Confluence
Preferred
- FinOps Certified Practitioner certification
- Experience with multi-cloud cost management strategies
- Background in finance, business analysis, or FP&A
- Familiarity with Kubernetes cost management (Kubecost, OpenCost)
- Experience with observability platforms for cost tracking (Datadog, Splunk)
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks and audit processes
