Job Description

The opportunity:

You will be part of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current), a business unit within Hitachi Energy located in Chennai. The unit develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. The HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. HVDC is also used to connect power systems. We are looking for an engineer with a keen interest in technology who is willing to learn and develop. Various technical areas need to be considered and the willingness and ability to grasp design from various aspects is key to be successful in this role. You will take part in the transition to renewable energy and work with high voltage and high current in complex technical problems.

  • To successfully take on this position, you need to be thorough and structured with a high technical interest and strive for good solutions within the set time limits.

  • You will be involved in projects, tenders, base and R&D work.

  • To grow with each task, enable yourself to develop and take more responsibility. HVDC is a complex product which will require time, dedication and effort to learn.

  • You will study and verify the HVDC station design from several different technical aspects.

  • You will handle the interface with stakeholders from other departments, ensuring you understand their needs, and they yours, and to work for a good collaboration for achieving best end results together.

  • You will be responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background:

  • You hold a degree in Master of Engineering - Power System/ High Voltage(with 2 to 10 years experience) / PhD - Power System (with 1 to 5 years experience).

  • Extensive knowledge of Layout Engineering, electrical and Mechanical Calculations, understanding and design of Grounding, Lightning, Insulation and EMF Studies.

  • Knowledge on IEC/IEEE standards is preferred, proven skills in using computers as a calculation tool.

  • Experience of power system simulation tools such as CDGES, COMSOL, AutoCAD, NX is preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of Power Systems equipment and their purpose, such as Power Transformers, Capacitors, Reactors, Instrument Transformer and measuring equipment, Circuit Breakers, Disconnector, Surge Arrester etc.

  • Knowledge in selection, sizing and integration of above equipment based on customer functional specification.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skill, fluent in English.
