Job Summary
As a Civil Engineer specializing in road construction, you will design, plan, and oversee road and highway projects, collaborating with teams to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance throughout the construction process.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed designs and plans for road construction projects, including layout, grading, drainage, and pavement structure, using engineering software and tools to create and review design models and simulations
- Conduct site assessments to gather data and evaluate site conditions for informed project planning
- Oversee construction processes to ensure timely completion, budget adherence, and compliance with quality standards
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate smooth project execution and resolve issues promptly
- Monitor project progress, identify delays or problems, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule and quality
- Ensure all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards
- Conduct inspections and audits to verify adherence to design specifications and safety protocols
- Provide technical guidance and support to construction teams and stakeholders, reviewing and approving construction plans, material specifications, and engineering calculations
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including records of progress, changes, delays, and financial expenditures
- Prepare and present reports on project status, issues, and performance metrics to management and stakeholders
- Address and resolve technical and operational challenges during construction by collaborating with engineers and professionals to develop innovative solutions
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field Master's degree or additional certifications in road construction or transportation engineering is advantageous
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable
- Certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or proficiency in road design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) are advantageous
- Proven experience (typically 3-5 years) in road construction or related fields, including project management and site supervision
- Strong proficiency in engineering design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.)
- Excellent knowledge of road construction materials, methods, and best practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to construction challenges
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal road construction regulations and standards
- Ability to work in diverse environmental conditions and varying terrains
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
