Job Description: Cinematographer
Art and Culture Function, Azim Premji Foundation (Full-time | Bengaluru-based)
Role overview
The Art and Culture function of Azim Premji Foundation is producing a slate of short films and micro-shorts that engage with everyday life, public institutions, and social realities. We are looking for a cinematographer who can work with small crews, real locations, and minimal setups, while maintaining visual sensitivity and consistency.
This role is not about spectacle or scale. It is about filming people and spaces with care, restraint, and attention.
What you will do
Shoot short films and micro-shorts across multiple projects
Collaborate closely with directors and the film leadership on visual language
Design camera approaches suitable for low-footprint, on-location shoots
Handle camera, lenses, and basic lighting independently or with minimal support
Conduct visual location scouts and advise on feasibility
Maintain consistency across films shot over an extended period
Coordinate closely with the Production Head to align visuals with schedules and constraints
What we're looking for
Formal training in cinematography or strong independent work demonstrated through short films
At least 23 short films shot in narrative or documentary formats
Comfort working with natural light and real locations
Ability to adapt visual style to different stories
Sensitivity to filming in schools, public institutions, and community settings
Ability to work within tight timelines and small budgets
Nice to have
Experience with documentary, fiction or hybrid cinema
Familiarity with minimal lighting setups
Experience filming non-actor environments
Reporting & collaboration
Works closely with the Film Head and Production Head
Collaborates with editors and directors across projects
