Role Title: Chief Product Development Officer

Team Size: 160 members (Design, CAD, Sampling & Product Engineering)
Role Overview
The Chief Product Development Officer will lead the complete end-to-end product creation function for a $300M+ global jewellery business, overseeing design, CAD, sampling, and product engineering teams. This role is responsible for transforming market insights and creative vision into commercially successful, scalable, and cost-effective jewellery collections for US, UK, and European markets.
This is a high-impact leadership role with direct reporting to the CEO, offering significant strategic influence, international exposure, and the opportunity to shape the product direction of a large, vertically integrated organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. End-to-End Product Ownership
- Own the entire product lifecycle: trend research mood boards design CAD sampling final costing & approval
- Ensure seamless handoffs and execution across design, CAD, and sample factory teams
- Drive consistency, speed, and predictability in product development outcomes
2. Design, Innovation & Market Relevance
- Lead global trend forecasting and product strategy aligned to US, UK, and Europe consumer preferences
- Translate trends into commercially viable, high-volume collections
- Balance innovation with manufacturability, timelines, and cost discipline
3. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and develop a 160-member multidisciplinary team
- Build strong leadership depth across functions
- Set KPIs, workflows, performance benchmarks, and accountability structures
4. Sample Planning, Control & Optimization
- Own end-to-end planning of sample requirements across collections, customers, and global markets
- Forecast and approve sample volumes for:
- Trade shows
- Client presentations
- Line reviews
- New program and customer launches
- Align sample planning with design calendars, sales pipelines, and customer commitments
- Optimize sample factory capacity, material usage, timelines, and prioritization
- Reduce rework, duplication, and excess sampling while maintaining speed and quality
- Ensure sample output supports commercial conversion and ROI, not just creativity
5. Costing, Pricing & Commercial Alignment
- Own product costing frameworks for a $300M+ revenue organization
- Work closely with sales, merchandising, and supply chain teams to ensure:
- Competitive manufacturer pricing
- Margin protection
- Scalability for large retail programs and long-term contracts
6. Global Client & Market Engagement
- Travel internationally to:
- Major jewellery trade shows
- Key retail customers and partners
- The company's New York office
- Support customer meetings, line presentations, and strategic product discussions
- Act as a senior product ambassador for the company in global markets
7. Process Excellence & Scale
- Strengthen SOPs, timelines, and stage-gate approvals
- Drive adoption of digital tools, CAD automation, and design systems
- Continuously improve speed-to-market, sample hit-rate, and development efficiency
Key Requirements
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience in jewellery product development
- Proven experience managing large-scale operations and teams
- Strong exposure to US, UK, and European retail markets
- Deep expertise in:
- Design & trend development
- Sample planning & costing
- Strong commercial mindset with operational discipline
- Willingness to travel internationally for shows, clients, and New York office collaboration
