Job Title: Chief of Staff – Investments & Wealth Strategy

Location: Chennai, India

Reporting to: Founder & CEO

The Mohan Mutha Group, founded in 1957 and headquartered in Chennai, is a global conglomerate with interests in Trading, Shipping & Logistics, Real Estate, and Infrastructure across India, Singapore, the UAE, Uganda, and the Maldives. Building on its legacy, the Group is now expanding into Financial Services with a focus on Investment Banking, Wealth Management, AIFs, and NBFCs.

Role Overview:

The Chief of Staff – Investments & Wealth Strategy will act as a strategic partner to the Founder & CEO, with a focus on ideating, conceptualizing, launching, and operationalizing the Group's Financial Services arm. This includes setting up and scaling verticals such as Investment Banking, Wealth Management, AIF/NBFC.

In addition, the role supports the Founder in aligning operations and strategy across the Group's emerging business of Family Business Consulting. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, structured, and execution focused, able to translate vision into action and scale greenfield ventures with autonomy and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

(i) Strategic Leadership & Business Building:

  • Work directly with the Founder to ideate, structure, and launch the Financial Services verticals.
  • Define business plans, operating models, and growth roadmaps for:
  • Investment Banking (advisory, M&A, private placements)
  • Wealth Management (HNIs, family offices, portfolio solutions)
  • AIF / NBFC Platform (sector-focused or opportunity-driven)
  • Small & Medium REIT (focused on income-generating real estate assets)
  • Conduct feasibility studies, market scans, and competitor benchmarking.

(ii) Operationalisation & Execution:

  • Lead execution of each vertical's setup — regulatory filings, partnerships, recruitment, branding, and GTM.
  • Define organizational structures, key roles, and incentive structures.
  • Coordinate with external advisors (legal, compliance, tax, marketing) and internal teams.
  • Build robust governance, compliance, and reporting frameworks.

(iii) Investment Strategy Support:

  • Assist in evaluating co-investment opportunities and building a deal pipeline.
  • Work with financial advisors and analysts to screen and model deals.
  • Structure investment vehicles and participate in deal execution and fundraise initiatives.

(iv) Team Building & Culture:

  • Drive the hiring and on boarding of key leadership for each sub-vertical.
  • Establish performance culture, operating rhythms, and team synergies.
  • Group-Level Strategic Support
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives in the Real Estate business and Family Business Consulting vertical.
  • Ensure alignment of strategy and operations across businesses.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and investor communication for the Founder.

(v) Executive Office Management:

  • Coordinate high-level internal and external meetings, follow-ups, and strategic communication.
  • Handle confidential matters with discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's in Finance, Strategy, or related field.
  • Charted Accountant preferred.
  • 6–10 years of experience in Investment Banking, Wealth Management, Private Equity, Strategy Consulting, or financial venture building.
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments, capital markets, and regulatory frameworks (SEBI, RBI, AIF, REIT).
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale businesses from scratch.
  • Experience with real estate investments and family office structures is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling, market analysis, and pitch creation.
  • Familiarity with fund structuring, term sheets, and investor relations.
