Job Description

Position: Group Chief Human Resources Officer (Group CHRO)

Company: Confidential (A diversified multinational conglomerate spanning manufacturing, consumer business, and financial services)

Location: Ahmedabad (Work from Office — 5 days a week, no hybrid) with regular travel to plants and retail stores

Experience: 18–25 years in HR, with at least 7 years as CHRO or Group HR Head of a multi-business group spanning manufacturing plants and a consumer or retail business

Qualification: MBA / PGDM in HR or Personnel Management from a reputed institute preferred

Background Sought: Must bring Group/multi-business CHRO experience + manufacturing plant HR & industrial relations + consumer / retail frontline exposure + listed-company governance (NRC, ESOP) + leadership hiring & succession + multi-entity, multi-state compliance. Promoter-led group experience is essential.

Responsibilities

As Group CHRO, you will lead the people agenda for the group and all its companies — from agri-processing plants and steel mills to e-waste, specialty chemicals, structured finance and a fast-scaling retail and consumer care business. You will build one group HR architecture — shared values, governance, leadership pipeline and core policies — while letting each business run HR at its own pace: plant- and IR-led in manufacturing, high-volume and frontline-led at the retail venture. You will work closely with the Chairman, the promoter family, business CEOs, and the Board's Nomination & Remuneration Committee.

The Group CHRO carries direct onus for ensuring that every group business has the right leaders and the right people, at the right cost, to grow — this role is measured by business outcomes, not by HR policies alone.

ROLE

  • Own the group people strategy and HR charter across all group businesses and legal entities — org design, leadership talent, performance, rewards, industrial relations, compliance and HR operations.
  • Build a group HR operating model: a lean corporate HR centre in Ahmedabad (policies, rewards, leadership talent, HR technology, governance) with business HR heads for each sector (agri, manufacturing, e-waste, specialty chemicals, finance, and retail).
  • Lead CXO and business-head hiring, succession planning and talent reviews across the group — building a strong internal bench and working closely with the Chairman and promoter family on leadership continuity.
  • Lead plant HR and industrial relations across processing units, refineries, mills, and manufacturing plants — contract labour, worker committees and unions, wage settlements, shift manpower and a strong safety culture.
  • Enable the retail and consumer care venture's scale-up to 400 stores through a dedicated HR lead — high-volume store and frontline hiring, store incentives, training and retention, while protecting the lean, flat startup culture.
  • Harmonise grades, compensation structures and benefits across group companies while keeping each competitive for its industry; own the design and administration of group ESOP plans.
  • Partner the Board's Nomination & Remuneration Committee on senior appointments, KMP remuneration, ESOPs and the HR disclosures required of a listed company.
  • Ensure labour-law compliance across every entity and state — Factories Act, Contract Labour Act, Shops & Establishments, PF/ESIC, minimum wages, POSH, EHS and readiness for the new Labour Codes.
  • Build one unified culture around core values of Care, Trust, Integrity, Honesty and Confidence — consistent across the group, yet flexible enough for each business to move at its own speed.
  • Roll out a common group HRMS, multi-entity payroll and people dashboards for every business.
  • Drive performance and productivity — headcount planning, manpower cost as a percentage of revenue by business, and plant and store productivity — and own the group people budget.
  • Lead talent mobility across group companies, set up HR for new ventures and acquisitions, and build a lean group HR team hands-on.

MUST HAVES

  • 18+ years in HR, including 7+ years as CHRO or Group HR Head of a multi-business group or diversified conglomerate.
  • Deep plant HR and industrial relations experience in manufacturing or process industries (agri-processing, metals, chemicals or similar), including contract labour and union handling.
  • Exposure to a consumer, retail or D2C business with a large frontline workforce.
  • Listed-company experience — Nomination & Remuneration Committee, KMP remuneration, ESOP administration and SEBI-related HR disclosures.
  • Proven record in leadership hiring, succession planning and org design across multiple businesses.
  • Promoter-led group experience — able to earn the trust of the Chairman and promoter family while working alongside professional CEOs.
