Position Summary
The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost‑effective operation of the Engineering Division in support of all hotel departments. This role oversees maintenance of the building, equipment, systems, and grounds while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, brand standards, and sustainability practices, creating a safe and seamless experience for guests and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all Engineering operations, including preventive maintenance, repairs, renovations, and life‑safety systems.
- Ensure compliance with local and national codes, statutory regulations, fire and safety standards, and environmental practices.
- Oversee energy management, utilities consumption, and sustainability initiatives to maximize efficiency and control costs.
- Manage the Engineering budget, capital planning, forecasting, and cost controls in collaboration with the Director of Finance.
- Coordinate with Materials, Security, HR, and other departments to support hotel operations and guest satisfaction.
- Manage contractors, special projects, inventories, and engineering stores efficiently.
- Conduct regular inspections of the property, guest areas, and back‑of‑house facilities.
- Lead, develop, and engage the Engineering team through effective recruitment, training, performance management, and succession planning.
- Represent the Engineering function on the Leadership Committee and support overall hotel objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Supply Chain, Commerce, or related field
- 6-8 years of Materials/Purchasing experience in a hotel or hospitality environment
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, procurement processes, and cost control
- Experience with materials management systems (SCALA preferred)
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, leadership, and communication skills
- Strong understanding of financial controls, audits, and compliance requirements
