Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh

Project Type: Underground Metro Station (Top-Down Construction Method)

Employment Type: Contract (Project-based)

Reports To: Project Director / Project Manager

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly experienced and technically sound Chief Engineer to lead the

construction of an underground metro station in Dhaka, utilizing the top-down

construction method. The ideal candidate must have extensive hands-on experience in

diaphragm wall (D-wall) construction and underground civil works, particularly in dense

urban environments. This is a key leadership role requiring technical expertise, project

management skills, and familiarity with international construction standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage all engineering and technical aspects of the metro station construction project.

Take full responsibility for planning and execution of top-down construction activities, including the construction of diaphragm walls (D-walls), slabs, and intermediate excavation stages.

Supervise the construction of D-walls, ensuring alignment, depth, continuity, and quality control according to design and soil conditions.

Review and approve engineering designs, technical drawings, and method statements related to D-wall and underground works.

Coordinate with design consultants, geotechnical experts, and construction teams to

ensure safe and efficient D-wall execution.

Oversee site engineering teams and ensure adherence to timelines, budget, safety, and

quality requirements.

Provide technical solutions for challenges encountered during D-wall excavation,

reinforcement, concrete pouring, or slurry management.

Monitor construction progress and prepare regular technical and progress reports for

stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with all local and international construction codes, safety, and

environmental standards.

Requirements:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.

Minimum 20 years of civil construction experience, with at least 10 years in

underground metro/tunnel projects.

Proven and documented experience in diaphragm wall (D-wall) construction is

mandatory.

In-depth knowledge of top-down construction methods for underground structures.

Strong understanding of soil-structure interaction, geotechnical analysis, and

groundwater control techniques.

Familiar with construction equipment and methodologies related to D-wall construction

(e.g., trench cutters, bentonite slurry systems, tremie concrete, etc.).

Capable of leading large technical teams and coordinating with multidisciplinary

professionals.

Proficient in project management tools and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS

Project, Primavera).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in urban metro rail projects in South or Southeast Asia.

Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional accreditation.

Prior experience working with international contractors or joint ventures.

Special Requirement:

Candidates must have hands-on experience in the construction of diaphragm walls (D-

walls), including planning, execution, quality control, and troubleshooting. Experience must be supported by references or project documentation.
