Position Title: Chief Business Officer (CBO)

Reports to: Rector

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

The Chief Business Officer (CBO) will provide senior executive leadership for the establishment and ongoing management of UNSW's India Campus. The role is accountable for strategic direction, operational delivery, financial management, and compliance with all relevant regulatory frameworks. The CBO will ensure that the campus operates in alignment with UNSW's global mission, values, and academic standards, supporting the University's long-term objectives in transnational education. The CBO will lead the operational and business development aspects of the India Campus, overseeing its establishment phase and ongoing operations. This includes responsibility for governance and reporting structures, financial sustainability, risk management, and stakeholder engagement across internal and external partners. This position provides an opportunity to contribute to the development of a new international education initiative within the Indian higher education landscape. The CBO will play a central role in shaping the institutional framework, culture, and practices of UNSW's India Campus, ensuring it becomes a sustainable and high-performing part of the University's global network.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the development and execution of UNSW India's strategic vision, guiding its establishment and long-term growth in alignment with UNSW Sydney's academic and institutional priorities.
  • Oversee all day-to-day operations of UNSW India to ensure seamless, high-quality experiences for students and staff across academic, administrative, and campus functions.
  • Develop and manage financial plans and budgets to ensure long-term sustainability and optimal resource utilisation through robust systems and controls.
  • Ensure compliance with Indian regulatory frameworks (UGC, AICTE, etc.) and UNSW's internal policies, acting as the primary liaison with national authorities and UNSW governance bodies.
  • Build strategic partnerships across industry, government, academia, and regulators, while representing UNSW India in public forums to enhance its reputation and global influence.
  • Enhance the overall student experience and foster strong faculty engagement through academic support, professional development, and a collaborative campus environment.

Skill & Experience

  • A master's degree in business administration, Higher Education, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in higher education management, transnational education, or a comparable corporate leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of Indian higher education landscape, regulatory frameworks, and institutional governance and global best practices in academic operations, strategic planning, and stakeholder management.
  • Strong leadership, financial acumen, and strategic decision-making skills
