Job Description

Chemistry Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your years of chemistry training could directly shape how AI reasons through some of the most complex scientific problems in the world We're looking for Chemistry experts — Masters and PhD holders — to design, solve, and evaluate advanced chemistry problems that push the boundaries of what AI can understand and communicate.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for serious scientists. No AI background needed — just deep domain expertise and a passion for rigorous, high-quality work.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and review advanced chemistry problems with real-world scientific relevance
  • Apply your expertise in organic, inorganic, physical, or computational chemistry to craft complex, nuanced problem statements
  • Evaluate AI-generated chemistry reasoning for scientific accuracy, depth, and clarity
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to enhance model reasoning
  • Ensure scientific rigor and precision across all deliverables
  • Work independently on task-based assignments — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Master's or PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in one or more of: organic, inorganic, physical, or computational chemistry
  • Comfortable working with Python or computational chemistry software (e.g., Gaussian, VASP)
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented with strong written communication skills in English
  • Self-motivated and reliable when working independently without day-to-day supervision
  • Currently based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality review, or AI evaluation systems
  • Background in scientific writing, peer review, or academic publishing
  • Familiarity with AI tools or large language model workflows
  • Experience designing problem sets, exams, or research exercises in an academic context

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based scientific work
  • Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI understands and communicates chemistry
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
