Job Description

Background

Praan (Praan, Inc.) is an impact focused deep-tech startup democratising clean air using breakthrough filterless technology. The company is backed by top tier VCs and CXOs globally and currently operates between the United States and India. Our team puts extreme attention to detail and loves building technology that's aspirational. Praan's team and culture is positioned to empower people to solve large global problems at an accelerated pace.

Why

Everyone worries about the dooms-day in climate change which is expected to occur in the 2050s. However, there's one doom's day which is the reality for millions of people around the world today. Air pollution takes more than 7 Million lives globally every single year. Over 5% of premature children death occur due to air pollution in developing countries. Everyone has relied on governments or experts to solve the problem, but most solutions up until today have either been too expensive or too ineffective. Praan is an attempt at making the future cleaner, healthier, and safer for the generations to come.

Job Description

  • Develop and implement CFD models from scratch in OpenFOAM for Praan's products and deployments across commercial, residential and industrial applications, including large-scale domain simulations
  • Work on transitioning ANSYS-based simulations to OpenFOAM, enhancing performance, scalability and flexibility, including the use of UDFs/custom solvers where required
  • Run simulations of real-world dust flow patterns and particle behavior (DPM, multiphase flow) for client sites, using real-world data to replicate environmental conditions and provide actionable insights
  • Leverage data from real-world deployments and applications to validate simulations, refine models and continuously improve product performance
  • Perform aerodynamic and aeroacoustic analyses to evaluate airflow efficiency and acoustic characteristics of products
  • Actively contribute to product development and product optimization across Praan's core projects, improving airflow, particle capture and system performance
  • Work across the complete product development lifecycle, combining simulation and experimental validation to accelerate iteration cycles and improve accuracy of results
  • Generate reports on simulation feasibility and outcomes, and collaborate closely with mechanical, operations, and manufacturing teams to drive design improvements
  • Automate repetitive tasks using Python/C wherever applicable, streamlining workflows and ensuring high-quality, accurate simulations

Skill Requirements

  • BS/MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in CFD roles at a startup or corporate
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, multiphase flow and particle (DPM) simulations, with exposure to aeroacoustics modeling
  • Hands-on experience with OpenFOAM for meshing, solving and post-processing (ParaView)
  • Experience in large-scale simulations, turbulence modeling and numerical methods
  • Proficiency in geometry preparation and cleanup using CAD tools (Fusion 360 or Salome preferred)
  • Experience with UDFs/custom solver development or scripting (Python/C/C++)
  • Ability to interpret simulation results and correlate with experimental/field data
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Good communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and non-engineering teams
  • Strong documentation practices
